Usando dados de GPS, o montanhista italiano William Boffelli afirmou ter quebrado o recorde de velocidade na subida do Mont Blanc, apenas uma semana depois do francês Benjamin Védrines atingir um novo recorde.

“4 horas, 43 minutos e 24 segundos, novo recorde”, escreveu o alpinista italiano de 32 anos nas redes sociais, acompanhando a mensagem com uma foto sua em frente à igreja de Chamonix e à trilha de GPS que leva ao cume do gigante alpino.
Este prestigiado recorde entre os montanhistas havia sido quebrado uma semana antes por Védrines (4h54min41s), que melhorou o tempo estabelecido pela lenda espanhola do montanhismo Kílian Jornet (4h57min40s em 2013) em quase três minutos.
“Magnífico”, respondeu o próprio Védrines à mensagem, enquanto Jornet escreveu em italiano: “Grandíssimo”.
Partindo na madrugada de sábado, Bofelli percorreu os 32,43 km e 3.800 metros de subida em menos de quatro horas e 45 minutos, de acordo com dados de seu smartwatch, compartilhados em detalhes pelo popular aplicativo Strava.
Embora esses tipos de tempos não sejam geralmente aprovados por federações internacionais devido à falta de testemunhas para certificar os tempos, com as novas tecnologias e o GPS, eles costumam ser considerados válidos, pelo menos para que sejam registrados oficialmente.
