While the decision to swap head coach Mike McCarthy for offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is raising eyebrows, most Dallas Cowboys fans and analysts agree that Jerry Jones made significant strides addressing the team’s biggest roster needs. But not everyone is impressed, especially if you ask Rob Gronkowski.
On paper, the Cowboys‘ offseason was both aggressive and targeted. They had major holes to fill, starting with the departure of perennial Pro Bowler and future Hall of Fame offensive guard Zack Martin. In response, Dallas selected Alabama standout Tyler Booker in the draft, a move that was met with cautious optimism from fans and draft experts alike.

Then came the backfield rebuild. With both Rico Dowdle and Ezekiel Elliott no longer in the mix, the Cowboys had no choice but to revamp their rushing attack. They picked up former Texas LonghornJayden Blue in the draft, and in free agency, added seasoned runners Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders. That trio gives Dallas much-needed versatility and depth in the backfield.
But the boldest move came in the passing game. Recognizing that CeeDee Lamb needed a true complement on the outside, Jones struck a deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers to acquire dynamic wideout George Pickens.
National analysts are split
Despite checking off multiple needs, the Cowboys’ offseason hasn’t received universal praise. Pro Football Focus graded Dallas a modest C+, largely due to their skepticism around whether the additions are enough to make the Cowboys a serious Super Bowl contender. Sports Illustrated, however, took a more optimistic approach, awarding the team an A for its decisiveness and the Pickens acquisition.
Still, it’s safe to say no one went quite as far in the other direction as Rob Gronkowski.
On a recent episode of the Dudes on Dudes podcast, Gronkowski joined his former teammate Julian Edelman to react to a fan’s bold claim that George Pickens could help lead the Cowboys to a Super Bowl win this season.
“This guy has definitely drank too many Coors Lights,” Gronkowski said. “I mean, he’s out of his mind… probably 25 beers deep. George Pickens? I mean there’s so many other things that the Cowboys had to address. They had one of the worst offseasons of all time.”
Edelman echoed some of Gronk‘s doubts, pointing specifically to the running back position.
“Let’s pump the brakes on the Super Bowl,” Edelman added.

Major League Baseball is acknowledging that there has been more drag on the baseballs used in games this season, resulting in long fly balls traveling four feet less than they did last year.The confirmation from MLB responded to a report by The Athletic, which reviewed fly ball and drag information available to the public.
