Last week, when the Cleveland Browns began their OTAs (Organized Team Activities), all eyes were on Shedeur Sanders after he was selected in the fifth round of the recent NFL Draft-despite once being projected as a first-round pick when he played at the University of Colorado.
Shedeur arrived in the NFL expected to be one of the league’s new stars, but he has joined as just another player who must earn his spot. In his first OTA practice, he completed 7 of 9 passes with three touchdown throws. Social media quickly lit up with praise, calling him a rising star. However, several analysts were quick to temper fan expectations.
Joe Flacco browns locker room loyalty tested as Shedeur Sanders makes bold promise on live stream
The reality is that Shedeur Sanders’ stats, while accurate, came from 7-on-7 drills-no pass rush, no offensive line, and other key elements missing. Still, one fact remains: Deion Sanders’ son posted better numbers than Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel.
Kevin Stefanski sees Shedeur Sanders as the future quarterback
After the initial practices, Browns insiders reported that Shedeur Sanders has participated in 11-on-11 sessions, though these practices were not open to the public. Head Coach Kevin Stefanski revealed that Sanders is working hard: “Yes, and I’d tell you there’s a lot of work getting done when you all aren’t around-believe it or not.”
Why Did Shedeur Sanders Slide All the Way to the Fifth Round?
Meanwhile, sports betting analyst Drew Dinsick from the podcast “Bet the Edge” shared his thoughts on the Browns’ quarterback situation. He believes Joe Flacco is unnecessary, and that with Kenny Pickett and Shedeur Sanders, Cleveland could mirror the Minnesota Vikings’ situation last year with Sam Darnold and J.J. McCarthy.
According to Dinsick, Pickett should be the starter and take on the Darnold-like role, while Shedeur Sanders develops behind him.
“The real issue for me is, what is Flacco doing there?” said Dinsick. “If Flacco weren’t in the picture, then suddenly everything becomes obvious. Like having Sam Darnold start while grooming your future quarterback, right? Like the Vikings’ game plan last year. But with Flacco in the mix, there’s not much upside for either of the younger guys.”
Dinsick believes the Browns will name Pickett as their starting quarterback. However, he notes the odds of this actually happening are low, given Joe Flacco’s past success with Cleveland in 2023 and his deep understanding of Stefanski’s system-clearly giving him a solid edge over the others.
