Víctor Orta fue cesado ayer por la mañana como director deportivo del Sevilla y por la tarde fue anunciado Antonio Cordón con el cargo de director de fútbol profesional por las próximas tres temporadas. El pacense llegará en los próximos días a la capital hispalense para incorporarse a la disciplina sevillista junto a su hijo Jaime Cordón y el analista José Ignacio Navarro, que se desvincula del Olympiacos griego. Fue antiguo colaborador de Monchi en la etapa de José María del Nido Benavente. No hay tiempo que perder
Cordón conoce bien cómo respira la ciudad tras su paso por el Betis y partiendo de la prudencia económica como base, el club ha entendido que tocaba dar un golpe de timón tras el sonrojante baile de entrenadores por el banquillo en menos de tres años y apostar por un trabajo de fondo que requiere paciencia, algo que en el fútbol, y todavía más en el Sevilla, no se maneja bien. Orta, que trabajó hasta el último momento ajeno a su inminente despido (siguió las negociaciones por la Prensa), tiene a su favor haber reducido casi a la mitad la masa salarial de una plantilla de Champions. Cordón también deberá tirar de imaginación. Su reto más inmediato es cerrar al nuevo entrenador. El elegido es Imanol Alguacil, pero no está convencido.
El oriotarra ha puesto fin a un brillante ciclo al frente de la Real Sociedad y está con ganas, pero analiza pros y contras. Cordón guarda buena relación con Imanol y la agencia de representación de éste, pero tiene varias opciones que le tientan, algunas a nivel deportivo y otras en lo económico. El club saudí Al-Shabab ha puesto sobre la mesa una cifra con muchos ceros. Si el nuevo director de fútbol profesional del Sevilla no consigue convencerle, le tocará sugerir otro candidato.
Otros movimientos
Es su primer objetivo y el más importante, pero no el único. Monchi dejó trabajo adelantado antes de marcharse al Aston Villa y pasarle el testigo a Víctor Orta en el verano de 2023, y ahora el madrileño tenía cerrado un fichaje -Alfon González, canterano del Celta- y una renovación -Álvaro Fernández, por dos años más- de cara al curso que viene, además de haber sido el encargado de mantener los primeros contactos con Imanol.
Suso no ha llegado a un acuerdo con el Sevilla y su contrato se dará por finalizado a finales de junio. En Cádiz ya le esperan para convertirse en su fichaje estrella de cara a la próxima temporada. Lokonga ha vivido una temporada a préstamo desde el Arsenal y le gustaría seguir, pero no depende de él. Cordón se encontrará también la ‘patata caliente’ de los cinco jugadores que regresan tras finalizar su cesión: Joan Jordán, Rafa Mir, Januzaj, Iheanacho y Gattoni. A ver qué tiene que decir también el nuevo entrenador al respecto. Y de la cantera, una de las bases del Sevilla. De eso sabe, y mucho, Imanol.
