Sonia Cea: “El Deporte salva a la sociedad de muchas cosas”

Sonia Cea (Madrid, 1985), concejala de Deporte del Ayuntamiento de Madrid, es una mujer inquieta. Lo mismo casa a seis parejas a la vez en Usera, el barrio que luce con orgullo en una pulsera, que se remanga para intentar un ‘touchdown’. Al frente del deporte en la capital, periodista efímera, presume de vivir en una “ciudad única”.

Pregunta. ¿ Rafa Nadal dijo que Madrid era la capital mundial del deporte. ¿Lo consideran un halago políticamente correcto o una realidad?

Respuesta. Es un gran halago fruto de la realidad que disfrutamos en Madrid tras muchos años de consolidación. Y esto ha sido posible no sólo gracias a la política de la ciudad, sino a la ciudad en conjunto. Madrid está de moda en el mundo y va a dejar de ser una moda pasajera para ser una realidad. Es la consecuencia de ser una ciudad segura, con una oferta gastronómica y cultural de primer nivel, una ciudad divertida y con unos madrileños maravillosos.

Todos estos elementos hacen que tenga un valor muy grande, lo que motiva que vengan los grandes eventos deportivos que estamos albergando y que han convertido a Madrid en la capital mundial del deporte.

P. Es innegable la influencia del Deporte en el Turismo, ¿manejan algunos datos concretos?

R. Las encuestas que manejamos es que todo aquel turista que viene a un evento deportivo, repite y vuelve. Hay que tener en cuenta que son eventos que duran poco por sí mismos, lo que hace que sólo estén dos días a lo mejor. Pero al turista se le queda corto y repite.

P. Predica con el ejemplo en el deporte desde pequeña. Como usuaria, ¿cómo ha cambiado la ciudad en términos deportivos?

R. Tenemos una inversión récord en instalaciones deportivas y su mantenimiento. Y son instalaciones de primer nivel y con unos proyectos futuros que merecen la pena. Por ejemplo, el año pasado, ahora que estamos en la época, se abrieron dos nuevas piscinas municipales, algo que no se hacía desde el año 92. Otro ejemplo es el Vallehermoso. Va a celebrar el Europeo de atletismo por selecciones. La pista está en perfecta para una competición de este nivel, pero también para que los chavales cada día vengan a entrenar. Nuestro lema es ‘De la base al cielo’, enfocado en que esos chicos trabajen para que algún día puedan aspirar a participar en los grandes eventos que también tenemos. Y eso pasa por unas instalaciones óptimas y como hemos hecho este año con un cariño a los clubes, en modo incremento de subvenciones para la práctica deportiva. Esa es nuestra apuesta.

P. La llegada de la F1, que no es barata, ¿va a limitar la apuesta por otros deportes?

R. No. En ese sentido lo han dejado muy claro tanto la presidenta como el alcalde, que son los grandes hacedores de lo que está pasando en Madrid a nivel ciudad. Que la F1 venga a Madrid es prueba de lo bien que se están haciendo las cosas. O la NFL. Muchos promotores llaman a nuestra puerta queriendo venir a Madrid por el valor simbólico de la ciudad.

P. Este año han tenido un reconocimiento a los clubes más legendarios

R. Tenemos la suerte de contar con un gran número de clubes históricos y hasta el momento no se había hecho una distinción a su labor. Los hemos agrupado en oro, por encima de 100 años; plata, por encima de 75, y bronce, por encima de 50. Hicimos una gala en el Palacio de Cibeles, en el mismo escenario donde se entregaron los Premios Laureus, porque creemos que es importante reconocer el deporte de base, que es el alma del deporte de Madrid. Esta labor va a seguir no sólo premiando, sino de la mano de estos clubes históricos trazando el camino para enseñar a los demás a que perduren en el tiempo.

P. ¿Cómo andan de salud deportiva los madrileños ahora que llega La Noche del Deporte?

R. En Madrid se practica cada día más deporte en nuestras instalaciones. Se observa en las inscripciones en las Escoladas, los Juegos Deportivos Municipales, y en la oferta deportiva. Desde la pandemia se ha observado un boom por hacer deporte y se ha naturalizado la práctica deportiva. Eventos como este de La Noche del Deporte es muy especial en ese sentido. Queremos que la gente viva el deporte y sienta cercana la práctica deportiva donde quieran que esté. Salir a la calle y encontrártelo e inscribirte.

Como gran ciudad, en Madrid está creciendo otro tipo de deportes, como el béisbol o el softball, que responden a una demanda concreta de un sector de ciudadanos que quieren jugar a ello

P. Usted siempre estuvo al frente de un barrio humilde, cómo está creciendo el deporte urbano en Madrid, que no está federado

R. El deporte urbano está creciendo mucho. Como gran ciudad, en Madrid está creciendo otro tipo de deportes, como el béisbol o el softball, que responden a una demanda concreta de un sector de ciudadanos que quieren jugar a ello. En Villaverde, por ejemplo, acabamos de inaugurar unas instalaciones de BMX y Parkour que recomiendo que las visiten. Tenemos un deporte rey, pero no solo de él vive el madrileño.

P. Esos cambios que alude entroncan también con la multiculturalidad de la población madrileña

R. Efectivamente. Soy una apasionada desde niña del deporte porque creo que el deporte salva a la sociedad de muchas cosas a todos los niveles. La apuesta por el deporte es absolutamente rentable. Cuanto mayor inversión, muchísimo mejor. No es solo salud, anímica, felicidad y buena convivencia. Todo.

P. Vemos ciudades europeas donde el tráfico de coches está muy limitado, ¿ve factible un Madrid donde se cambien las bicicletas por coches o su geografía lo dificulta?

R. Eso es una mejor pregunta para mi colega de movilidad. En este gobierno se ha impulsado mucho bicimad y ha llegado a los 21 distritos de Madrid. Nuestra orografía es quizás un poco más complicada, pero ahí tienen un pequeño motorcito para llegar más rápido a los sitios.l
