Arch Manning, the highly regarded Texas Longhorns quarterback, could shock the NFL by choosing to skip the 2026 Draft on the basis that he feels no need to rush into the professional game.
The youngster is generating significant attention as one of college football’s brightest prospects and reports suggest teams are already clamoring to land the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning.

“He has pretty similar arm talent, but the factor that separates him is his athleticism,” a scout said to MARCA. “Neither Eli nor Peyton had what he has when it comes to that.”
This same scout further suggested he could be a future No. 1 overall pick and possibly “a better prospect” than either of his uncles.
But sources close to him indicate that he currently has “no plans” to declare for the 2026 NFL Draft, in what could be a major curveball to any early ambitions to the likes of the New Orleans Saints or New York Jets.
The 20-year-old quarterback is prioritizing his development and college career over an early jump to the NFL and it could be surprising if Manning opted to enter the draft early unless he delivers a Heisman Trophy-worthy NCAA season.
His measured approach contrasts with the increasing hype that often surrounds top prospects eager to transition quickly to the professional ranks and indicates he’s keen to avoid the same trap that Quinn Ewers, his Longhorns predecessor, fell into.
Ewers thought he could have gone in the first round but slipped all the way down to 231st overall, when he was finally taken by the Miami Dolphins and will play behind Tua Tagovailoa at the Hard Rock Stadium.
So despite the buzz and external pressure, those close to Arch are encouraging patience and steady progression to make sure he enters the NFL when he is both mentally and physically ready for the demands of professional football.
Manning committed to Longhorns ahead of 2025/26 NCAA season
Under the guidance of head coach Steve Sarkisian, the Longhorns are rebuilding after their recent College Football Playoff semifinal appearance, and Manning‘s presence at quarterback is expected to elevate the team’s competitiveness.
Whether Manning stays for one year or multiple seasons, his tenure promises to be impactful. Either way, for the short term, the young talent isn’t planning on going anywhere as he reaffirms his commitment to the Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium.
“There’s nowhere else I want to be,” Manning told reporters. “I want to be at Texas.
“I got friends here. Love this place. So I want to be the quarterback of the University of Texas. Sometimes it’s worth the wait.”
The team opens their campaign against the Ohio State Buckeyes, the team who won the national championship, on August 30 – marking a stern test for Arch, his team and their own title ambitions.
