The Chicago Sky’s back-to-back victories over the Dallas Wings mark a pivotal turn in their season. The team edged out the Wings 97-92 at Wintrust Arena on May 29, then repeated the feat with a solid 94-83 win at College Park Center on May 31.
These results broke an early four-game losing streak and lifted the Sky to a 2-4 record, injecting new energy into a roster still searching for its identity under new head coach Tyler Marsh.
Angel Reese shows off what “God gave her” leaving the cameraman breathless
Reese leads a bold tactical move
Beyond the box score, the wins reflect Marsh’s willingness to innovate-particularly by closing games with a smaller lineup, featuring Angel Reese as the starting center.
Asked about the decision by Chicago State of Mind Sports, Marsh explained:
“I like the spacing it creates and the versatility she brings on both ends of the floor. We’re going to keep exploring different small-ball options to see what works.”
Key contributions on both ends
In the home win, Kamilla Cardoso led the team with 23 points, while Reese made her mark with nine rebounds, despite a quieter scoring night. Two days later, Ariel Atkins took charge offensively with 26 points, and once again Reese asserted her presence on the boards with another nine rebounds against a tougher defensive matchup.
The move to position Reese-standing 6-foot-3-as the team’s primary center may defy traditional logic, but so far, it’s paying off.
From college star to Sky cornerstone
Angel Reese was one of the most watched rookies in the WNBA in 2024. Her college career at LSU culminated in a national championship win over Iowa and Caitlin Clark in 2023, which helped secure her selection as the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Sky.
Chicago Sky head coach speaks out following Angel Reeses tactical shift.
In her rookie season, Reese averaged 13.6 points and led the league with 13.1 rebounds per game. Her immediate impact earned her All-Star and All-Rookie Team honors, cementing her status as one of the new faces of the league.
