V první půli krásně uvolnil na levé straně Ivana Perišiče, jenž přihrál Ante Budimirovi a brankář Matěj Kovář zasáhl. V 75. minutě fantasticky připravil gólovou pozici pro Andreje Kramariče, který uzavřel skóre na 5:1 pro domácí.
„Moc hráčů by takovou přihrávku nedokázalo dát. Chtěl jsem na něj co nejdřív zatlačit. Věřil jsem, že je někdo za mnou. Ale Luka ukázal svou genialitu,“ prohlásil český kapitán Tomáš Souček.
„Každý sleduje, jak hraje za Real. Je to obrovský hráč. Zaslouží si velký respekt, že i v tomhle věku dokáže na téhle úrovni předvádět skvělé výkony. Má také výbornou podporu kolem sebe. Chorvaté hrají delší dobu pospolu, mají pár talentovaných hráčů, kteří do týmu dorůstají. Jsou skvělí,“ přidal Michal Sadílek, další český střední záložník, který se s Modričem v soubojích potkával.
Chorvaté hráli vskutku výtečně a Čechy přejeli, ovšem veterán, který se loučí s Realem Madrid, má výjimečné postavení a auru. „Luka, Luka, Luka,“ skandovali nejednou fanoušci v zaplněné Opus Areně. Stejný pokřik se ozýval i desítky minut po konci utkání, když Modrič opouštěl stadion.

Odjížděl spokojený. „Takhle musíme pokračovat. Byli jsme lepší téměř po celý zápas. Možná jsme mohli vstřelit o pár gólů víc. Náš přístup, hra a všechny další aspekty byly na vysoké úrovni. Češi nás nepřekvapili. Věděli jsme, že jsou tvrdí a agresivní. Po přestávce byli nebezpeční, ale věděli jsme, že pokud udržíme svůj přístup, bude jedinou otázkou rozdíl ve skóre,“ uvedl Modrič.
Osobní zásluhy si ale nepřipisoval. „Nerad mluvím o své hře. Nejdůležitější je, že jsme vyhráli. To je ten nejlepší ukazatel,“ poznamenal chorvatský kapitán skromně. Sice ještě neví, kde bude hrát v nové sezoně po konci v Realu Madrid, ale jistě o něj bude velký zájem. Je fit, může si plnit další cíle. Češi to tvrdě pocítili.
