Entering the 2025 U.S. Open, the last 17 editions of the major have been won by Americans or Europeans. That’s a drought several golfers are out to end this year as the major begins on Thursday from Oakmont Country Club. Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama and Canadian, Corey Conners, are top-25 players who could challenge for the U.S. Open 2025 crown, as could Chilean Joaquin Niemann or Sungjae Im of South Korea. Conners finished ninth in last year’s U.S. Open after missing the cut in his first five starts at the event, so he’ll enter Oakmont with plenty of confidence.
Conners is also among a group of golfers still searching for a first major victory, alongside Victor Hovland, Patrick Cantlay and Ludvig Aberg. The six golfers with the shortest U.S. Open odds 2025 are all former major champions, and either Americans or Europeans, including Scottie Scheffler (+280), Bryson DeChambeau (+700) and Rory McIlroy (+1100). Both are fellow par-70 courses that Fleetwood just played PGA Tour events at last month, and he recorded fourth-place finishes in each.
Fleetwood now has top-16 finishes in four of his last five starts, as well as top 16s in each of his last two U.S. Open starts. He rose up the leaderboard on the weekend of last year’s U.S. Open as he was one of six players to shoot par or better in each of the final two rounds, and just three golfers shot better than his 2-under-par in the final round.
