Deion Sanders has finally spoken out following a concerning stretch in which he was absent from the Colorado Buffaloes football program due to an unspecified health issue.
For weeks, speculation swirled as the Hall of Famer spent time away at his Texas home, and fans across the country waited for clarity. That moment came when Sanders broke his silence with a personal and heartfelt message posted on X.
“Wow, I am truly blessed for the abundance of well wishes, for all the thoughts, and all of the prayers. THANK YOU,” Sanders said. “I can assure you all that everything is OKAY and will continue to be so. I’m excited to get back to Colorado to be at home with my staff, team & all associated to our program. When we arrive back to Boulder you will be updated on everything.”
The reassurance was welcome news for fans and supporters of the Buffaloes, who have come to view Sanders as the heart and soul of the Colorado program.
His son, Bucky, had earlier tried to calm concerns during a livestream, mentioning that Sanders was “feeling well” and would provide a full update soon.
Coach Prime‘s message puts the focus back on football
Even as Sanders was privately dealing with his health, social media and message boards lit up with wild speculation. Some critics went as far as suggesting Sanders was fabricating or exaggerating his condition to engineer a quiet exit from Colorado.
These rumors were swiftly condemned by Buffs insider Kevin Borba, who defended Sanders’ commitment and emphasized the priority should remain on his well-being.
Borba, who has closely followed Sanders’ tenure with the program, addressed the outside noise and provided additional insight into what’s been happening behind the scenes. He praised the Buffaloes’ assistant coaches and support staff for holding down the fort in Prime’s absence, but he also made it clear that Deion’s return is pivotal.
“I think the weirdest thing about Deion Sanders, whether it’s his health, his sons leaving, or people talking about him leaving for a TV job or him hosting TV shows. The weirdest thing that comes with Deion Sanders is the fact that, rather than talking about what he has done, what he can do, or what he will do for the program, people love to debate, to question, to predict when he is going to leave Colorado,” Borba said. “I think people are just waiting for it to happen, counting out the days.”
But those days may be far off. Sanders has made it abundantly clear he has no plans to walk away from the Buffaloes anytime soon. In fact, many believe that Boulder is the perfect place for him to continue his coaching journey and grow the “Prime” brand in a way that wouldn’t be possible at a blue-blood school like Florida State.
