The Kansas City Chiefs are still reeling from their crushing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, which dashed their hopes of achieving the NFL’s first-ever three-peat. But don’t count them out yet-they’re poised to make a roaring comeback next season. They’re still the squad everyone’s gunning for in the AFC, and they’ve got their sights set on some mind-blowing records. Could they become the second team ever to reach four consecutive Super Bowls, as the Buffalo Bills did from 1990 to 1993 (although Buffalo lost all four)? Or will they match the Tom Brady Patriots’ run of eight consecutive conference championship game appearances from 2011 to 2018?
They might even make history as the first team to reach six Super Bowls in seven years-now that would be wild. This dynasty kicked into high gear when Patrick Mahomes took the reins in 2018 after spending a year on the bench. It’s been built on four cornerstones: Mahomes; his go-to tight end, Travis Kelce; defensive rock, Chris Jones; and clutch kicker, Harrison Butker. They’re all back for 2025, though there’s talk that this might be Kelce’s last season in the NFL.
A Brutal Schedule Awaits for the Chiefs
After their best regular season ever, with 15 wins and just two losses (they even benched their starters in Week 18 against the Broncos), the Chiefs appear unstoppable heading into 2025. Rashee Rice is back to bolster their offense, and Hollywood Brown is ready to contribute from the start. Meanwhile, Steve Spagnuolo’s defense has been the team’s backbone the last couple of years. However, their schedule is formidable. With eight standalone games, including a league-high seven primetime showdowns, it won’t be easy. Matching or topping last year’s insane regular-season record would be a feat for the ages. Let’s take a look at how it shakes out month by month.
September: The Chiefs kick things off with a bang-the NFL’s second-ever game in Brazil, a Friday night divisional showdown against the Chargers. In Week 2, they have their chance at redemption with a home rematch against the Eagles, the team that prevented them from achieving a three-peat. Then, on a Sunday night, they travel to New York to face Russell Wilson’s retooled Giants. Next, they have a home clash with Lamar Jackson and the Ravens. Jackson is a terror during the regular season, even though the Chiefs have dominated him in regular season and the playoffs (5-1 record).
October: The hits keep coming with a Monday night game in Florida against the Jaguars. Rookie sensation Travis Hunter may show off his two-way skills in this game. Week 6 is intense-they’re heading to Detroit to face the Lions in a showdown between last year’s top seeds. Some thought this could’ve been last season’s Super Bowl. Then comes a rare “easy” one at home against the Raiders (Mahomes is 12-2 against them), before ending the month with another Monday night game against the Commanders and rookie of the year Jayden Daniels, who’s poised for a big leap.
November: After a bye week, it’s a gauntlet. First, they host the Bills-Josh Allen has beaten Mahomes in four of the last five regular-season meetings, including the Chiefs’ first loss last year. Then, they travel to Denver to face Bo Nix in his second year, followed by the Colts-the only team Mahomes hasn’t beaten in the regular season. Thanksgiving night brings an exciting road game against the Cowboys. If Dallas stays healthy, it could be electric.
December: The stretch run starts with a Sunday night clash against the Texans, followed by a second matchup against the Chargers. Next, they head to Tennessee to face No. 1 draft pick Cam Ward-he may have the Titans in the playoff mix by then. The season closes with divisional matchups against the Broncos and the Raiders. It’s a tough schedule, but this team excels under pressure.
Can Anyone Stop the Chiefs?
If they stay healthy, the Chiefs’ offense could be downright scary in 2025-maybe their best in years. Mahomes could throw for 5,000 yards and 35+ touchdowns again-last season was their peak, after all.
In the AFC West, forget it-Mahomes has a 35-5 record against the division, so good luck to anyone trying to knock them off there. Across the AFC, it’s a long shot too. The Bills might have a glimmer of hope, but I wouldn’t bet on it. The Chiefs are still the top dogs, and everyone else is scrambling to catch up. If they secure home-field advantage again, who’s brave enough to storm Arrowhead Stadium in the playoffs? It’s a tough road, but this season has all the makings of a wild ride.
