Sam Burns, right now, is the best putter on the PGA Tour. And if you ask anyone who knows anything about golf, they’ll tell you Adam Scott has the sweetest swing since Freddie Couples. These two will be paired together Sunday in the final round of the 125th U.S. Open.
Burns sits at -4, clinging to the lead by one over Scott and J.J. Spaun (-3), who will be in the penultimate group with Viktor Hovland (-1).

In that quartet, only Scott has a major victory to his name, and he won that way back in 2013 at Augusta. So no, this isn’t golf’s biggest guns fighting at the top, as it has been in major after major of late.
The biggest of guns, Scottie Scheffler, remains in contention (somehow) despite having yet to shoot a round under par. At +4, the world No. 1 is eight shots back, but he’s still in a tie for 11th. That shows how tight things are at Oakmont.
