Depois de uma trajetória marcada por oscilação na última temporada no certame nacional, mas com título da Conference League, o Chelsea estreia na Copa do Mundo de Clubes nesta segunda-feira (16), às 16h (de Brasília), diante do Los Angeles FC. Curiosamente, do time que conquistou o direito de disputar o novo torneio organizado (através do título da Champions League 2020-21), apenas um jogador permanece no plantel do time inglês: Reece James.
Figura presente na grande decisão contra o Manchester City há quatro anos, o lateral foi o ‘último dos moicanos’ na equipe londrina. Naquela oportunidade, os Blues levaram a melhor pelo placar de 1 a 0, carimbando o passaporte para o Mundial. Desde então, o plantel passou por uma intensa reformulação, principalmente por conta da saída do antigo proprietário Roman Abramovich. O russo deixou o comando do clube em 2023, após determinação do governo britânico.
Nos movimentos do mercado, o Chelsea deixou de trazer nomes de peso e jovens cobiçados, para mesclar com algumas apostas, não deixando de empregar altas cifras no mercado. Depois do título na Champions, a equipe londrina participou do Mundial no antigo formato, tendo vencido o Palmeiras na prorrogação pelo placar de 2 a 1.
Investimentos altos na janela
Às vésperas de debutar na Copa do Mundo de Clubes da Fifa, a diretoria do Chelsea trabalhou de forma incisiva na ‘janela extra’ para o torneio, tendo injetado mais de R$ 450 milhões em três reforços anunciados. O último dele foi o zagueiro Mamadou Sarr, de 19 anos, que vinha se destacando pelo Strasbourg.
Segunda a imprensa inglesa, a chegada do jovem, em um contrato longo vigente até junho de 2033, foi acertado na casa dos 12 milhões de libras, cerca de R$ 90,2 milhões na cotação atual na moeda britânica. Antes do defensor, os londrinos já haviam anunciado atacante Liam Delap e o meio-campista Dario Essugo. No pós-Mundial, os Blues ainda estarão reforços de Estêvão, do Palmeiras.
Provável Chelsea para a estreia
Para o duelo diante do Los Angeles FC, o técnico Enzo Maresca terá força máxima, e deve utilizar uma ‘espinha dorsal’ vista na última temporada, contando com Palmer centralizado, ao passo que Madueke e Pedro Neto figuram como pontas. Reforço anunciado recentemente, Delap tem boas chances de estrear, ganhando minutagem, após chamar a atenção dos Blues pela boa temporada desempenhada no Ipswich Town.
A provável escalação do Chelsea aparece com: Robert Sánchez, Reece James, Chalobah, Colwill e Cucurella; Moisés Caicedo, Enzo Fernández e Palmer; Madueke, Pedro Neto e Delap. Não há desfalques.
