Devětapadesátiletý Gjert Ingebrigtsen čelil obvinění z fyzického a psychického týrání dvou ze svých sedmi dětí po dobu celkem 14 let, od roku 2008 do roku 2022. Soud v norském městě Sandnes se případem zabýval od března. Státní zastupitelství požadovalo trest odnětí svobody na dva a půl roku.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen vypovídal před soudem v březnu krátce po zisku historického double na tratích 1500 a 3000 metrů na halovém mistrovství světa v Nan-ťingu. Vylíčil několik případů fyzického násilí, facky a kopance do břicha. Některé se podle něj staly v době, kdy mu ještě nebylo osm let. Dětství popsal jako plné strachu a manipulace, podle rozsudku ale pro to neexistují dostatečné důkazy.
Gjert Ingebrigtsen tak byl uznán vinným jen z napadení dnes devatenáctileté dcery Ingrid. Tu v roce 2022 opakovaně udeřil ručníkem do obličeje.
Elitní běžec Ingebrigtsen spolu se svými rovněž úspěšnými bratry v roce 2023 veřejně promluvili o tom, že k nim byl otec, který je zároveň trénoval, v dětství i při tréninku agresivní. Rozjelo se policejní vyšetřování a loni v dubnu byl Gjert Ingebrigtsen obviněn z napadení dcery. O šest měsíců později přišlo obvinění i z týrání Jakoba.
Právě Gjert Ingebrigtsen je považován za strůjce úspěchů tří synů, kteří to dotáhli do atletické světové špičky. Před Jakobem se prosadili jeho starší bratři Filip a Henrik. Už v roce 2021 se s otcem ale všichni tři rozešli.
