Tyreek Hill reignited the age-old debate between football speed and track supremacy after running the 100-meter dash as he taunted Noah Lyles, launching verbal jabs that quickly escalated into a one-sided war of words that backfired.
The Miami Dolphins wide receiver turned his attention to Olympic world champion sprinter after running a blazing 10.15 seconds, which is very good by NFL standards and for a 31-year-old.
This is the most luxury experience for the FIFA Club World Cup
His performance came at the Last Chance Sprint Series in Sherman Oaks, California, where he recorded the fastest time among 91 competitors and marked an impressive time for someone who hasn’t competed on the track since his junior college days.
Yet, rather than a quiet celebration, Tyreek used the moment to make a bold statement about Lyles that set off a wave of responses, including one from Justin Gatlin, who dismissed his time as something Noah could achieve by jogging.
This prompted the NFL star to lose his head a little bit as Hill bit hard at the jibe and fired back via his YouTube channel with a series of comments directed at the retired Olympic gold medalist and Lyles.
“Walkup is one, and the first thing I see on my phone is Justin Gatlin saying that Noah Lyles can walk a 10-15,” Hill said. “Okay, that’s fair. That’s fair, I can’t argue that.
“But what I can argue is, that was like a season opener race, so first race of the season. I haven’t ran a 100m dash since Juco, which was 2012, so that’s over 13 years ago. And I’m not trained for this s**t, bro.
“Make all the excuses you want, but that lame American 100m dash run that y’all got, you can’t f**k with me, bro. And Noah Lyles is still scared of me, remember that.”
Fans come for Hill too
Though Hill‘s 10.15 is an exceptional time for someone not actively training as a sprinter, the public’s response was far from celebratory as social media was quick to offer a dose of perspective-and reality.
Fans pointed out a big line between Tyreek‘s raw speed and Noah‘s finely tuned sprinting mastery that earned him medals at the 2024 Paris Games, despite battling Covid-19.
One user commented, “Noah is a different level…kinda like flash vs Hermes.”
A second said, “Washed Tyreek vs prime Noah Lyles bro, Tyreek is not winning.”
And a third commented, “Tyreek is delusional as f**k, bro needs to focus on NFL.”
For many, the distinction was clear: Hill is an elite athlete in football terms, but sprinting at the global level is an entirely different domain. Still, his performance has raised anticipation for a potential race between the two athletes.
Though no official confirmation exists, there are reports suggesting that a head-to-head could take place before the U.S. Outdoor Championships in July, although it’s likely that Lyles would win without truly breaking a sweat.
