O Boca Juniors-ARG ficou perto de fazer história com uma improvável vitória sobre o Benfica, mas levou o gol de empate ( 2 a 2) do argentino Otamendi nos minutos finais da partida desta segunda-feira, em Miami, nos Estados Unidos, pela Copa do Mundo de Clubes. Altamente disputado, o jogo foi marcado por uma expulsão para cada lado.

A última vez que um time sul-americano venceu um europeu foi em 2012, quando o Corinthians superou por 1 a 0 o Chelsea-ING na final do Mundial — hoje chamado de Copa Intercontinental.

Com mais presença no ataque, o Benfica quase abriu o placar com um chute colocado de Renato Sanches aos cinco minutos do primeiro tempo. Entre os titulares, a equipe portuguesa contou com Di María e Otamendi, campeões mundiais pela seleção argentina em 2022, mas encontrou dificuldades para superar a marcação adversária.

Após resistir à pressão inicial, o Boca Juniors deixou para trás o nervosismo da estreia e passou a criar chances de perigo. Logo depois da saída de Ander Herrera, ex-Manchester United e PSG, por lesão, os xeneizes balançaram as redes com o atacante Merentiel, que aproveitou linda caneta do lateral-esquerdo Blanco para desviar com a perna direita, aos 20 minutos.

Mesmo com o primeiro gol, o time argentino não se deu por satisfeito e continuou em cima de um atordoado Benfica. A postura ofensiva surtiu efeito em cobrança de escanteio. O zagueiro Ayrton Costa escorou de cabeça na segunda trave, e Battaglia, ex-Galo, testou firme para fazer o segundo.

Já na reta final da primeira etapa, a bola parada teve efeito contrário ao Boca. O meia Palacios surgiu para afastar de chutão um escanteio fechado, mas exagerou na vontade e acertou Otamendi, que foi ao chão com dores. Após revisão do VAR, o árbitro marcou pênalti, convertido com categoria por Di María.

Apesar de ter reagido no confronto, o Benfica parou novamente no sistema defensivo do Boca, o que ficou ainda mais difícil com a expulsão de Belotti, que acertou com o pé a cabeça de Ayrton Costa em disputa de bola. Depois de dar amarelo em campo, o juiz revisou o lance no VAR e expulsou o italiano.

No “apagar das luzes”, Otamendi antecipou aos zagueiros e subiu livre para testar forte em direção ao gol de Marchesín. Ainda deu tempo do zagueiro Figal receber cartão vermelho, por falta dura em Florentino.

O próximo adversário do Boca é o poderoso Bayern de Munique-ALE, enquanto o Benfica enfrenta o Auckland City-NZ pelo Grupo C da Copa do Mundo de Clubes.
