Caitlin Clark’s return to full form has been nothing short of decisive, but it’s not just her statistics drawing attention – it’s her poise under pressure as the Indiana Fever guard expertly handles aggressive fouls against her with composure.
The 23-year-old’s most recently example came as she secured back-to-back wins on her return from injury over the Connecticut Sun, tallied 20 points and six assists. However, headlines were not about her talent on court but about her reaction as she shrugged it off.

She remained focused and delivered the goods, and even when a photographer named Bri Lewerke asked her in the comments on Instagram, “You like that?” Clark simply responded, “I do.”
It was a game marred by physical altercations and officiating controversies, most notably when Clark was poked in the eye by Connecticut’s guard, Jacy Sheldon, before Marina Mabrey escalated the situation by forcefully shoving her to the floor.
Officials responded by upgrading Sheldon’s foul to a flagrant, while Mabrey received a technical foul. Clark, who was also assessed a technical, converted all three awarded free throws to extend Indiana’s lead to 13.
Keeping her cool, she remained focused on the job to improve Indiana’s record to 6-5 and also propel the team into the final of the Commissioner’s Cup, set to take place against the Minnesota Lynx on July 1.
Her performance came on the heels of her 32-point outing on Saturday against the defending champion New York Liberty. After missing time due to a quadriceps injury, the 2024 Rookie of the Year is regaining rhythm and leading the Fever’s resurgence.
Barstool Sports founder calls out Sun’s Sheldon and Mabrey
The on-court tension didn’t end with the foul against Clark as a later altercation involving Sheldon, Lindsay Allen, and the Fever’s Sophie Cunningham resulted in ejections for all three players.
The game’s chippiness sparked broader criticism of the league’s officiating and how Clark is being treated on the court, and the Barstool Sports founder, Dave Portnoy, was among those who criticized the league for what he viewed as lenient punishment.
“Imagine not kicking Marina Mabrey out after she assaults the face of the league,” Portnoy posted on X.com, formerly Twitter. “Just a common tech? Sick league WNBA.
“Also shouldn’t have been a tech on Caitlin since that girl got in her face after gouging her eyes.”
Fan reactions echoed Portnoy’s sentiment, feeling as though there wasn’t enough retribution or protection for the Iowa Hawkeyes graduate, who continues to prove herself as one of the WNBA’s most marketable stars.
One user wrote, “So over the refs. JC was not even pretending to swipe at the ball when she eye gouged CC. Pathetic, dirty play followed up by a chest bump.”
A second added, “Unsurprising that Mabrey jumped at the opportunity for a cheap shot. WNBA are just embarrassing at this point.”
