Za více než osmisekundové držení míče brankářem je nově rohový kop, dříve měl být za šest sekund nepřímý kop z místa činu. Tedy uvnitř pokutového území. Sudí se toho báli, hrozily komplikované situace v bezprostřední blízkosti branky, prohřešek i proto většinou přehlíželi. A tak gólmani vesele a bez následků zdržovali.
V zámoří a také na ME jednadvacítek se teď plnohodnotně dostala na svět novinka. A jako první k jejímu využití sáhnul francouzský rozhodčí Clément Turpin.
Historická chvíle přišla v 83. minutě. Afričané vedli 1:0 a snažili se udržet svůj náskok. Brankář Ronwen Williams získal míč na svém pokutovém území a pokoušel se šetřit čas. Až příliš viditelně. Došlo na předepsané odpočítávání rozhodčího. Brankář narychlo vykopával, ale přesto pozdě. Osm sekund už bylo pryč. Dokonce ještě víc.
Jak velí nové znění regulí, nařizuje se roh. Williams si ale mohl oddechnout, tahle standardní situace nebyla úspěšná a jeho tým udržel těsné vedení.
Pravidlo osmi sekund už platí i na ME jednadvacítek a v příští sezoně má být použito i v dalších soutěžích.
Podle instrukcí FIFA a UEFA se limit osmi vteřin počítá od chvíle, kdy má brankář plnou kontrolu nad míčem a není pod tlakem soupeře. Pokud se ale útočící hráči snaží gólmanovi bránit v rozehrávce, rozhodčí počítání přeruší a nařídí nepřímý volný kop ve prospěch bránícího týmu.
Vylepšené pravidlo se několik měsíců testovalo v maltské lize a mládežnických soutěžích v Itálii a Anglii. Teď zažívá premiéru na vrcholné úrovni.
