After two seasons out of the NHL, former Chicago Blackhawks legend Jonathan Toews is making a comeback. Toews, who sat out the past two seasons due to health issues, signed a deal with the Winnipeg Jets on Friday, the team announced.
Toews was in the midst of a Hall of Fame career when injuries struck. Toews missed the entire 2020-21 NHL season after being diagnosed with chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS). He returned to action the following year, but posted a career-low in points. After another tough season in 2022-23, Toews said CIRS and long COVID were still affecting his game.

That August, Toews said he intended to sit out the 2023-24 season to focus on recovery.

Famed slugger Sammy Sosa made his long-anticipated return to Wrigley Field on Friday -- his first official appearance at the stadium in 21 years -- for the Chicago Cubs' home contest against the Seattle Mariners (SEA-CHC GameTracker). When Sosa arrived at the stadium before the game, team owner Tom Ricketts greeted him with a hug. The 56-year-old Sosa spent parts of 13 seasons with the Cubs, and for much of that time, he was one of the most potent power hitters in baseball history. Of his 609 career home runs, 545 came with a Cubs jersey on his back. In 1998, he jousted with Mark McGwire of the rival Cardinals for the single-season home run record, and for his efforts, he was given the National League MVP award.
