Chega ao fim a carreira de um dos maiores lutadores de MMA de todos os tempos. Atual campeão dos pesos-pesados (-120kg) e ex-campeão peso-meio-pesado (-93kg) do UFC, Jon “Bones” Jones tem a aposentadoria oficializada neste sábado. O anúncio foi feito pelo CEO do UFC, Dana White, durante a entrevista coletiva após evento em Baku, no Azerbaijão na disputa entre Jamahal Hill vs. Kalil Rountree Jr. O campeão interino, Tom Aspinall, foi alçado ao posto máximo na organização.
De acordo com White, o lutador abdicou de vez do cinturão em uma ligação que fez ao presidente nesta sexta-feira.
– Jon Jones me ligou na noite passada e me disse que está oficialmente se aposentando. Tom Aspinall é o novo campeão peso-pesado do UFC – comunicou White.
O anúncio vem na esteira de recentes falas do lutador, de 37 anos, apontando que não iria voltar ao octógono. Sua última luta ocorreu em novembro, quando venceu o ex-campeão de maior destaque na categoria, Stipe Miočić.
Lenda do MMA, Jones, se aposenta com um cartel de 28 vitórias e uma derrota — que ocorreu por conta de uma desclassificação — além de uma luta sem resultado. Fenômeno no esporte, o americano conquistou o primeiro cinturão em 2011, com 23 anos, o que o torna o campeão mais jovem da história do UFC.
Em seu cartel ele conta com grandes vitórias sobre nomes como Lyoto Machida, Vitor Belfort, Daniel Cormier e Maurício Shogun Rua.
