Jeremiah Smith just got the ultimate stamp of approval – and it came from one of Ohio State’s most respected legends. Former Buckeye and current NFL standout Terry McLaurin is singing the praises of Smith, calling the young wideout a rare talent poised to rewrite the record books in Columbus.
“He’s in an environment that’s really gonna push him to be ready for the next level,” McLaurin said. “But it’s going to be really cool to see how he can develop and get better in year two. I think we haven’t seen the best of him just yet.”
And that’s saying a lot.
Jeremiah Smith’s rise has been nothing short of spectacular. After being cut from the Miami Gardens Ravens at just seven years old, something snapped – in the best way. “Something just clicked in J.J. after the cut,” his uncle Geno Smith Sr. recalled. “He has pretty much been an animal from that time on.”
Praise pours in for Jeremiah
That drive led him to a monster freshman season with the Buckeyes: 76 catches, 1,315 yards, and 15 touchdowns. Analysts are already projecting him as a top NFL Draft pick – and he hasn’t even played his sophomore year.
McLaurin, a star with the Washington Commanders on his own right, isn’t the only one in awe. CBS Sports’ Carter Bahns put it plainly: “Imagine what he can do with a full year of experience under his belt.” The buzz is real – Smith is now mentioned in the same breath as Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, and Marvin Harrison Jr.
And it’s not just the stats. “Everything I hear about him – he’s really humble; he works extremely hard,” McLaurin added. “If he continues on that path, I think he can be not only one of the best receivers to come through Ohio State but a really good receiver when he gets to the NFL.”
Smith and Carnell will be a fearsome pairing
With fellow star Carnell Tate returning, Ohio State’s receiver room is still loaded despite the loss of Emeka Egbuka. The Smith-Tate duo could be the most dangerous in all of college football next season.
He’s already a fan favorite. He’s already making history. And if you ask Buckeyes Nation – Jeremiah Smith might just be that guy.
