DeWanna Bonner has found herself at the center of swirling trade speculation as she remains absent from the Indiana Fever lineup. With no official explanation from the team beyond “personal reasons,” fans are left hunting for answers.

The veteran WNBA forward has now been absent for a run stretching to five games, which has ultimately ignited questions about her future with the franchise and her relationship with Caitlin Clark, the team’s rising star.
Bonner last appeared in a game against the Atlanta Dream, but no official statement has come from herself or her representation, the 36-year-old forward broke her silence in a more subtle way: through Instagram.
During the fourth quarter of the Fever‘s June 24 game against the Seattle Storm, a matchup from which she was again absent, Bonner posted a photo of her children, captioned, “My greatest loves!! I love you!”

The post sparked reactions from several figures within the WNBA community. Alyssa Thomas responded with three red heart emojis. Additionally, Jac’Eil, the wife of Fever forward Natasha Howard, commented simply: “Family.”
The message, though personal, came at a time when Bonner‘s professional future is under the microscope, and many observers interpreted the post as a reflection of where her priorities currently lie.
This post has only fueled speculation about the possible reasons for her disengagement from the Fever, that has seen her feature only in a reduced role this season, averaging career lows with 7.1 points and 3.8 rebounds across nine games.
Early in the season, she was moved out of the starting lineup in favor of Lexie Hull, citing issues with fit and performance. Her limited role and the possibility of living away from her children may be contributing to her desire to leave.
“According to multiple league sources,” the Chicago Sun-Times’ Anne Costabile wrote. “The two-time WNBA champion has no interest in returning to play for the Fever.
“Those same sources indicated Bonner‘s preferred landing spots are with the Phoenix Mercury or the Atlanta Dream.”
If family is the priority of her heart, then a move to the Mercury makes sense considering her fiancee and fellow WNBA star, Alyssa Thomas, now plays for the Arizona-based outfit.
Thomas, when asked about Bonner‘s reported interest in joining her in Phoenix, declined to comment, and the refusal to address the matter only adds to the growing uncertainty surrounding Bonner‘s status.
Steph White dodges discussing DeWanna Bonner split
Following the trade reports, reporters sought answers from the Fever‘s own head coach, Stephanie White, although the 48-year-old wasn’t keen to give much attention to the matter.
“I haven’t had a lot of conversations with her recently,” White told media, making it clear her focus remains on the active roster. “Really focused on the team we have right here and what we need to do to position ourselves to win.”
The Fever organization has not issued any further statements regarding Bonner‘s future, nor has it commented on the veracity of the trade rumors. With the WNBA trade deadline approaching on August 7, the situation remains fluid.
