Arch Manning is set to become the face of Texas Longhorns football in 2025 as he leads the offense into a pivotal chapter under their head coach, Steve Sarkisian. But what is about him that made him stand out?
With Quinn Ewers now out of the picture as he heads to the Miami Dolphins in the NFL, the talented 21-year-old will now be throwing deep attempts at the Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium instead.

Much anticipated, the youngster is tipped to be contending for the Heisman Trophy award and is already linked with the NFL in the 2026 Draft, connected to franchises such as the New Orleans Saints.
But first up is college and Sarkisian offered rare insight into the process that brought Manning to Austin and what surprised him most about it, despite his high-profile pedigree as a member of football’s most storied family.
“I got to know him (Manning) really well through the recruiting process,” Sarkisian said to the 3rd & Longhorn podcast. “And I always, doesn’t matter if it’s Arch or Anthony Hill or anybody we recruit, we really try our best to get to know the family.
“Because I think the family is the best indicator of who the young man’s gonna become right in his time here.
“And if you ever been around Arch‘s mom, his dad, his brother, his sister, they’re awesome people.
“Like, down-to-earth, great people. And I thought that gave us a real indicator of man. This kid’s just a normal, down-to-earth kid.”
Manning‘s recruitment stood apart not only because of his last name, but also because of the expectations surrounding it as the nephew of Super Bowl champions Peyton and Eli Manning.
He is also grandson of the former Pro Bowler and Saints legend, Archie, and finds himself under intense scrutiny with that legacy to live up to. Yet by all accounts, his demeanor contrasts the media storm that has surrounded him for years.
That humility and team-first attitude ultimately played a major role in his decision to join Texas in 2023 and he spent his first year developing behind the scenes before emerging in 2024 as the clear No. 2 option behind Ewers, but never made a fuss.
When he did get his chance, it was memorable. In limited action of 10 appearances, Manning threw for 939 yards, nine touchdowns, and just two interceptions. He also added four rushing touchdowns.
Manning could skip 2026 NFL Draft
Although Manning is eligible to enter the NFL Draft in 2026, reports indicate he may wait until 2027 – when he is projected to contend for the No. 1 overall pick. That timeline aligns with Sarkisian‘s broader vision for Texas as it continues its transition into SEC competition.
Sarkisian is under contract through 2031 and recently received a significant raise from the University of Texas Board of Regents. His new deal guarantees over $80 million across seven years, reflecting both his success and the university’s confidence in his leadership.
That means both the head coach and player can work closely under little pressure to develop Arch’s game, and bring a national championship back to the team for the first time since 2005.
