Tom Brady overlooks Geno Smith in surreal moment, shares honest thoughts on Patrick Mahomes

Tom Brady may have retired from football, but he hasn’t stepped out of the spotlight-not even close. Over the weekend, the seven-time Super Bowl champion made a splash at the 2025 Fanatics Fest NYC, and not just because he stripped down and took a plunge into a tub of ice water.

Sitting across from comedian Kevin Hart during a live taping of Cold As Balls, Brady opened up in front of a packed crowd at the Javits Center in New York. The two talked about legacy, leadership, and which current NFL star could actually pass Brady in greatness. Without missing a beat, Brady went straight to Patrick Mahomes.

“It’s Patrick,”Brady said. “I love his mentality. He has a will to win, he’s got a desire every time he takes the field to be a great leader.”

And just like that, Geno Smith was nowhere in the conversation.

From Competition to Crowning Mahomes: Brady Keeps It Real

Brady didn’t mince words. He praised Mahomes not just for his arm or stats, but for his leadership and connection with teammates. “Even more than his physical skill,” Brady added, “everything he says is the right thing.”

It was a raw, real moment-one that fans didn’t expect to come while the NFL legend was waist-deep in an ice bath. But that’s part of what made it stick.

While the conversation was the main event, Brady also showed he still has a competitive streak. He dominated the Fanatics Games, beating out 99 other athletes and celebrities-including UFC’s Justin Gaethje-to take first place with 399.1 points. His prize? A cool $1 million.

Instead of pocketing it, Brady gave $5,000 to each of the 50 fans who participated and donated the rest to charity. It was a flex of both skill and character.

Still, the buzz coming out of the weekend wasn’t about the cold plunge or the leaderboard-it was that Geno Smith, for whatever reason, wasn’t even a footnote in Brady’s QB hierarchy. Whether intentional or just a heat-of-the-moment omission, fans noticed.

And Mahomes? He probably heard it loud and clear.
