Caitlin Clark will have to remain sidelined for Thursday night’s showdown against the Los Angeles Sparks due to a new injury to her left groin.
This unfortunate news for the Indiana Fever star comes after missing five games earlier this month after suffering a left quadriceps strain in her left leg.
Muted night for Caitlin Clark in Indiana’s locker room celebration
This was confirmed by Indiana Fever on its official X account: “Status Report for tonight’s game vs. Los Angeles: Caitlin Clark – Out (left groin)“, they wrote in the post.
In a press conference, Fever’s trainer Stephanie White stated that CC started last night with pain and underwent an MRI. She also stated that they will continually evaluate his response to treatment.
However, the team did not announce when the former Iowa player will be back in action again, so all eyes are on the Fever’s next game against Dallas Wings on Friday.
The idea of seeing CC face Paige Bueckers is something that got the fans excited and it showed in the ticket sales for the match. Half an hour after the announcement of Clark’s injury, Dallas confirmed that the bout at the American Airlines Center, with a capacity of approximately 20,000 fans, was officially sold out.
“A NIGHT IN DALLAS IS SOLD OUT. @AACenter will be packed tomorrow vs @IndianaFever” the team wrote on its X account.
However, this did not cause the expected reaction from fans, especially those who were hoping to see CC on the court:
“Won’t be if Caitlin is out again,” said one of the users, “Without CC. For me it is empty…” expressed with pain a fan, “Can we postpone?” proposed another one as a joke.
What should fans expect?
A win wouldn’t hurt Dallas, who have not had a good start to the season and have a 4-12 record. However, Paige Bueckers shines with an average of 17.7 points, 5.8 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game and the team is expected to take advantage of Clark’s absence, should his injury prevent him from playing.
With a win against Seattle following two straight losses to (to the Las Vegas Aces and Golden State Valkyries), Indiana will be fighting to make it back-to-back wins and add one more victory to their 7-7 record, with or without Clark.
However, Clark’s absence against Wings has not been confirmed and is one of the biggest question marks ahead of the game.
