Yago e Pupo vencem e seguem para as quartas; Toledo e outros quatro brasileiros são eliminados na etapa de Saquarema da WSL

Yago Dora é o primeiro brasileiro a avançar para as quartas de final da etapa de Saquarema do circuito mundial da WSL 2025. Ele venceu o mexicano Alex Cleveland nesta quinta-feira. Além dele, Miguel Pupo ganhou de virada na última onda do favorito Filipe Toledo, tricampeão na cidade da Região dos Lagos, e passou de fase.

— Adriano (treinador) sempre fala, é preciso agir como um sniper, são poucos tiros e tem que ser certeiros. A ideia era pegar ondas boas, fazer uma pontuação alta – disse ao GLOBO.

— Saquarema é um lugar onde as coisas sempre se encaixaram para mim — disse Yago.

Round eliminatório masculino

Os brasileiros Gabriel Klaussner, Alejo Muniz, Peterson Crisanto e João Chianca se despediram da etapa de Saquarema do circuito mundial da WSL 2025. Yago Dora venceu sua bateria e avançou para as oitavas com um tubo que levantou os fãs e fez a areia vibrar.

Com o resultado, Gabriel encerra sua participação na “Capital Nacional do Surfe” logo na repescagem, diante de um mar com condições desafiadoras no início do dia. Jordy avançou para a próxima fase com vantagem de 2.66 pontos. O sul-africano somou 11.33 pontos (notas 6.33 e 5.00), contra 8.67 do brasileiro (4.57 e 4.10).

— Foi uma experiência muito incrível. Cometi alguns erros. Aqui é a elite da elite e não tem espaço pra isso e tive a prova agora — disse ao GLOBO.

Pouco depois, o catarinense Yago Dora mostrou por que é um dos nomes fortes do surfe brasileiro. Ele venceu o também brasileiro Peterson Crisanto na terceira bateria do round eliminatório, com um somatório expressivo de 15.50 (notas 8.67 e 6.83). Peterson, que anotou 8.93 (4.50 e 4.43), foi eliminado da competição.

Alejo Muniz encerrou sua participação em Saquarema. O experiente surfista perdeu para o japonês Kanoa Igarashi na quinta bateria do round eliminatório. Alejo chegou a anotar uma boa nota 7.00 em sua melhor onda, mas sua segunda nota (2.67) foi insuficiente para superar o desempenho consistente de Kanoa, que totalizou 11.73 pontos (6.23 + 5.50). O brasileiro terminou com 9.67 e precisava de 4.73 para virar.

A série de eliminações brasileiras continuou na sexta bateria, com João Chianca sendo superado por Griffin Colapinto em uma disputa apertada. O americano levou a melhor por 9.20 a 8.73. Chumbinho somou 4.73 e 4.00 em suas duas melhores ondas, enquanto Griffin anotou 4.83 e 4.37. A diferença final foi de apenas 0.47 pontos.

As disputas seguem intensas nesta quinta-feira com baterias sendo realizadas de forma simultânea no point break de Itaúna. De acordo com a programação oficial da World Surf League (WSL), estão previstas para hoje todas as baterias restantes do round eliminatório masculino, além das quartas de final da chave feminina.
