Milwaukee Bucks guard Kevin Porter Jr. has informed the team that he will let his $2.5 million player option for the 2025-26 season expire and will become an unrestricted free agent this summer, league sources said.
Porter joined the Bucks at the trade deadline last season in a deal that sent MarJon Beauchamp to the Los Angeles Clippers. Across 30 regular-season games with the Bucks, the 25-year-old Porter averaged 11.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 19.9 minutes per game. In his first postseason, Porter played through some early struggles to eventually find his groove and average 11.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 5.4 assists in 30.2 minutes per game.

With Damian Lillard’s recovery from a torn left Achilles tendon putting him on the sidelines for most of next season, the Bucks have a significant opportunity at the point guard position. Both Porter and Ryan Rollins, the team’s two young point guards from last season, are free agents this offseason. Rollins is a restricted free agent.
As it currently stands, the Bucks have five players — Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, Kyle Kuzma, Pat Connaughton and Tyler Smith — on guaranteed contracts for the 2025-26 season. While that leaves much of the roster to be filled, those five players take up just over 92 percent ($142.6 million) of the projected $154.6 million salary cap for next season.
