Palmeiras’ Club World Cup dream came to an end as the Brazilian side bowed out of the tournament after a hard-fought loss to UEFA Conference League champions Chelsea at Lincoln Financial Field. In what was undoubtedly one of the most intense matches of the tournament, Chelsea secured their place in the next round by eliminating Palmeiras. Adding extra intrigue to the showdown, rising star Estêvão found himself facing his future club in a high-stakes FIFA Club World Cup knockout clash.
The English side came out with clear attacking intent, and it was their standout player, Cole Palmer, who opened the scoring just 15 minutes into the match, finding the back of the net with precision.
Nevertheless, the Brazilian side gradually settled into the match, pushing forward in search of an equalizer at Lincoln Financial Field. But it was necessary to wait until minute 52 when Estevao appeared.
Palmeiras eventually spectacularly leveled the score, thanks to Estevao’s unbelievable strike from a seemingly impossible angle. The young Brazilian received inside the box from the Colombian Richard Rios, and he shot with his right leg and sent the ball inside the goal.
Palmeiras had hoped to set up an all-Brazilian semifinal against Fluminense, who had earlier knocked out Al Hilal. However, despite withstanding waves of Chelsea pressure, Palmeiras’ hopes were dashed in the 83rd minute when Agustín Giay’s own goal handed victory to the English side and the ticket to the semi-final.

In a storyline worthy of a movie script, Estêvão found himself facing his future club in a decisive FIFA Club World Cup clash on American soil. The young Brazilian delivered one of his most impressive performances of the tournament, scoring a stunning goal and earning Player of the Match honors as he showcased his talent on the global stage.
He was brought to the Chelsea side in May of 2024, but the young Brazilian star couldn’t play with the English team due to his age. The Blues secured Estevao’s signing in May 2024, paying Palmeiras a record-breaking 65 million euros, marking the most expensive transfer from South America to Europe.
