There is no doubt that expectations are high for the Longhorns with Arch Manning at the helm, following two seasons as Quinn Ewers‘s backup. Manning is taking the reins of the only team in the nation to make the playoffs in each of the last two seasons. Last season, Manning demonstrated his potential in ten games, amassing 939 yards and nine touchdowns with an impressive 67.8% completion rate. In his two starts, he was unstoppable, leading Texas to lopsided victories with a combined score of 86-16. Now, he’s the SEC’s most popular player, and his status as the NIL’s top value proves it.
Longhorns Unveil Players for SEC Media Days Spotlight
The Texas Longhorns are gearing up for the SEC Football Kickoff Media Days, set for July 14-17 in Atlanta, and it’s shaping up to be more of an Arch Manning showcase than anything else. On Tuesday, the team revealed its representatives: head coach Steve Sarkisian, linebacker Anthony Hill Jr., defensive back Michael Taaffe, and, of course, Manning.
This marks Manning’s first appearance at the event as the full-time starting QB, a role he’s earned after years of media scrutiny. Hill and Taaffe bring some grit to the mix-Taaffe, a former walk-on turned standout safety, played all 16 games last season, notching 40 solo tackles, two interceptions, and 12 passes defended in his fifth year with the program. With Sarkisian leading the charge, this group will face the press starting July 15, giving fans a closer look at the team’s new era.
Manning’s Moment: A Season to Define Texas Football
This season is make-or-break for Manning and the Longhorns. Texas has been a powerhouse, posting a 25-5 record over the past two years and securing back-to-back playoff berths-a distinction they share with no other team. Yet, they have fallen short of the national title both times. Now, with Manning at quarterback, there’s genuine optimism that he could win the crown and join Earl Campbell (1977) and Ricky Williams (1998) as one of Texas’s three Heisman winners.
The schedule is challenging, beginning with a game in Columbus against Ohio State, followed by three home games against weaker opponents, a bye week, and an away game against the Florida Gators. If they win the big games, an undefeated Red River rivalry showdown with Oklahoma could be on the horizon. If Manning shines, he could follow his uncles into the top echelon of the NFL Draft. As Media Days approach, all eyes are on Manning to see if he’s the key to unlocking Texas’s championship dreams.
