Formule 1 letos slaví 75 let od prvního závodu, který se odehrál právě v Silverstonu. Pořadatelé si pro návštěvníky areálu starého vojenského letiště připravili bohatý program připomínající minulost královny motorsportu včetně výstavy historických vozů.
Velkou slávu při výroční Velké ceně ale pokazily dva incidenty. Krádež volantu monopostu Leyton House CG901 z roku 1990 a poškození vozu Racing Point z roku 2019.
„Northamptonshirská policie zveřejnila obrázek z bezpečnostní kamery, na němž je muž podezřelý z krádeže volantu historického vozu formule 1 v průběhu britské Grand Prix v Silverstonu. K incidentu došlo v pátek 4. července kolem půl třetí odpoledne,“ stojí ve vyjádření strážců zákona.
Podle záznamů z bezpečnostních kamer nejdříve podezřelý muž vlezl do monopostu Brabham BT59 a snažil se odcizit volant z něj. Po prvotním neúspěchu se zaměřil na vedle stojící Leyton House CG901. Z něj už se zloději podařilo volant odcizit.
„Zkoušel to v několika vozech. Kolem výstavy se ochomýtal asi půl hodiny,“ prozradil zástupce Martin Stretton Racingu, jenž se o vůz stará. „Ten volant nemůže ani prodat, hned by ho chytili. Je to jedinečný kus, originál z roku 1990. Nový by nás stál asi 2500 liber (asi 70 tisíc korun), historická hodnota toho původního je ale nevyčíslitelná.“
Policie po viníkovi stále pátrá a žádá o pomoc i veřejnost. Podle oficiálních zdrojů navštívilo Velkou cenu Británie od čtvrtka do neděle půl milionu diváků. Jen v pátek se měla cifra pohybovat kolem 130 tisíc držitelů vstupenek.
Policie také zadržela tři muže, kteří měli poškodit Racing Point z roku 2019. Škodu ve výši několika tisíc liber údajně způsobili při pokusu o nasednutí do vozu.
„Policie zadržela tři muže ve věku 23, 25 a 27 let s podezřením na způsobení škody na voze. Po dalším vyšetřování a okolností činu byli všichni muži propuštěni bez dalších kroků,“ stojí v prohlášení policie.
Vandalismu se měli dopustit tři britští youtubeři Morgan Burtwistle, známý jako AngryGinge, Charlie Clark alias Chazza a Samuel Imie neboli SamHam. Všichni shodně vinu popírají. Podle policie muži natáčeli livestream, při pokusu usednout do kokpitu je zadržela ostraha.
Třiadvacetiletý Burtwistle svůj pohled na věc zveřejnil na svém youtubovém kanálu. Mladík tvrdí, že je strážci zákona drželi na služebně 15 hodin. Předběžný odhad škody na monopostu je 30 tisíc liber (asi 850 tisíc korun).
