Andy Carroll (36) wird in britischen Medien mit einem Wechsel zum englischen Sechsligisten Chelsmford City in Verbindung gebracht. Aktuell ist der ehemalige Liverpool-Stürmer vereinslos. Zuletzt spielte er für Bordeaux, verdiente bei den insolventen Franzosen aber wohl nur etwa 1600 Euro im Monat. Der Engländer verließ den Verein zum Ende der Saison 2024/2025, um nach England zurückzukehren, weil er dort näher bei seiner Familie sein kann.

Ich bin wirklich zufrieden mit dem, was wir haben. Wir haben echte Qualität, viel Jugend und eine Menge hungriger Spieler, was großartig ist. Sie sind auch alle in einem guten Alter. Wir glauben, dass alle Spieler, die wir unter Vertrag genommen haben, noch sehr entwicklungsfähig sind, und das ist die DNA, mit der wir arbeiten werden.“

Spannend: Chelsmford plant, langfristig in den englischen Profifußball aufzurücken (1.-4. Liga). Das teilte der Vorsitzende und Mehrheitseigentümer Spencer Gore im Januar in einem Brief an die Fans mit.
Darin heißt es: „Im ehrgeizigen Bestreben des Vereins, den EFL-Status zu erlangen, hat unser Vorstand beschlossen, dass wir mit der formellen Bewertung dessen beginnen sollten, was nötig wäre, um als Vollzeit-Fußballverein zu arbeiten. Diese Veränderung wird natürlich eine deutliche Erhöhung des Vereinsbudgets erfordern, die sowohl Dan (Watkins, Miteigentümer) als auch ich bereit sind zu unterstützen, wenn wir entscheiden, dass es der richtige Zeitpunkt für diesen bedeutenden Schritt ist.“
Mit EFL-Status ist gemeint, mindestens in die 4. Liga aufzusteigen. Diese Stufe wird in England als EFL League Two bezeichnet.
Dabei könnte möglicherweise Carroll eine große Rolle spielen. Dass er bereit ist, auf Geld zu verzichten, hat er bereits mit seinem Mini-Gehalt bei Bordeaux bewiesen. Der bullige Stürmer (1,96 m) hat eine außerordentliche Vita vorzuweisen. Neben 9 Länderspielen (2 Tore) für England kommt er auf 248 Premier-League-Einsätze (54 Treffer). Von 2011 bis 2012 ging er für Liverpool auf Torejagd, zudem spielte er schon für Newcastle, West Ham, Reading und West Brom.
