Last season, without a doubt, the Colorado Buffaloes, led by Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders, were one of the NCAA’s biggest surprises after finishing with a 94 record (including the bowl game against BYU) and 72 in Big 12 play. Of course, Deion Sanders’ team stole the spotlight.

As expected, the team lost key starters to the NFL Draft, including quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who was selected by the Cleveland Browns, and Travis Hunter, who was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Additionally, some players left through the NCAA transfer portal. However, the roster still has plenty of talent.
So now Deion Sanders has everything in his hands to keep proving to the NCAA-and perhaps even the NFL-just how good of a coach he is. If he manages to deliver strong results with a new group of players, “Coach Prime” will earn respect and likely receive multiple offers.

There are high expectations for the Colorado Buffaloes
A new era is beginning for the Colorado Buffaloes, and J.D. PicKell of On3 made a record prediction, revealing that Deion Sanders’ team is expected to compete again in the Big 12, with only four losses on paper.
“Your four losses are to TCU, Iowa State, Georgia Tech, and Utah,” said PicKell. “I think the overall product will be better. We’ll see a more physical team that continues to adopt the identity Deion Sanders wants for them. I think they’ll have that extra regular season loss, but could still finish with a 94 record and a bowl win, just like last year.”
Colorado’s defense was one of the best in the Big 12 last year, and that unit seems poised to remain strong. The main concern is the offense, with the departure of Shedeur Sanders-who threw 37 touchdowns-and of course, versatile playmaker Travis Hunter.
In addition to Hunter, Colorado also lost wide receivers LaJohntay Wester, Will Sheppard, and Jimmy Horn Jr., all of whom are now in the NFL. The starting quarterback for 2025 will be Kaidon Salter. So, it will be interesting to see how Deion Sanders manages this situation.
