O brasileiro 13 vezes campeão mundial de jiu-jitsu, Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida, de 35 anos, anunciou nesta terça-feira ter assinado com a organização de MMA, UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). Almeida luta na categoria peso-pesado (-120kg) e já tem data e adversário marcados para a estreia. Ainda neste mês, no dia 26, a lenda do grapppling — esportes de combate com imobilizações — testará suas forças contra o eslovaco Martin Buday, em Abu Dhabi.
“Depois de muitos anos de carreira e uma vida dedicada ao esporte consegui alcançar mais esse sonho na minha vida, que era de um dia lutar na maior organização do mundo, o @ufc. Claro que foi uma longa jornada até aqui e isso não aconteceu do dia pra noite, tive muitos obstáculos pelo caminho nessa caminhada e ‘O que está no caminho, vira o caminho’. Foi com esse pensamento que consegui superar todas as dificuldades e chegar até aqui hoje”, escreveu o lutador, em seu perfil no Instagram.
E continuou: “Estou amarradão e preparado para mais esse desafio, gostaria de agradecer o todos de coração pelo suporte e pela torcida de sempre, agradecer a todos que sempre vibraram e vibram com minhas conquistas e podem ter certeza que eu estarei levando a bandeira do Jiu Jitsu comigo pra dentro o cage novamente! Vamo que vamo que chegou a hora!”.
A confirmação da luta ocorreu em outra postagem, quando ele compartilhou a informação do site MMA Junkie.
Um dos maiores campeões da “arte suave”, o brasileiro migrou para o MMA em 2021, na organizaçõa asiática ONE Championship, com uma vitória por finalização no primeiro round. Após a estreia, ele conquistou mais três vitórias no primeiro round, todas no ONE, para se estabelecer como um dos principais competidores de MMA dos pesos pesados da organização.
Em agosto de 2023, Buchecha teve sua primeira derrota, ele perdeu a luta na decisão dos juízes para o atual campeão de MMA dos pesos pesados do ONE, “Reug Reug” Oumar Kane.
Sem conseguir manter uma alta frequência de lutas no ONE, Buchecha expôs publicamente as dificuldades para conseguir agendar lutas com a organização. Após quatro combates em apenas 11 meses na liga asiática, o faixa-preta viu as ofertas de lutas reduzirem e só conseguiu mais duas lutas em dois anos, além da derrota, ele atuou em novembro, quando finalizou Amir Aliakbari, sua despedida do ONE Championship.
