O Alvinegro anunciou na terça-feira a contratação de Davide Ancelotti, de 35 anos, até dezembro de 2026. Será a estreia do italiano como técnico, depois de acompanhar seu pai como assistente nas passagens por Real Madrid (2021-2025), Everton (2019-2021), Napoli (2018-2019) e Bayern de Munique (2016-2017).
Tempos de calma
O primeiro técnico da era Textor no Botafogo foi o português Luis Castro, o que mais tempo ficou no cargo: 458 dias, segundo o site especializado Transfermarkt.
Sua saída foi voluntária. Quando a equipe liderava o Campeonato Brasileiro, em abril de 2023, Castro decidiu tentar a sorte na Arábia Saudita com o Al-Nassr de seu compatriota Cristiano Ronaldo.
Série de demissões
Cláudio Caçapa teve uma breve passagem como interino até julho de 2023, quando outro português, Bruno Lage, assumiu o cargo respaldado por sua experiência no Benfica e no Wolverhampton da Inglaterra.
O trabalho de Lage durou 78 dias e 15 jogos, nos quais o Botafogo continuava na liderança do Brasileirão, mas com a vantagem que construiu reduzida. Lúcio Flávio comandou o time enquanto a diretoria escolhia um sucessor.
O escolhido foi Tiago Nunes, em novembro de 2023. Novo naufrágio: 99 dias de trabalho e 15 jogos.
O Palmeiras foi o campeão brasileiro daquele ano e o treinador foi demitido em fevereiro de 2024, após um empate com o Aurora da Bolívia pela Copa Libertadores.
O jogo foi marcado por um gesto de Nunes, com o qual parecia chamar de “chorão” o técnico do Aurora, Mauricio Sosa, pouco antes de a equipe boliviana igualar o placar.
Textor perdeu a paciência e designou um novo interino, Fábio Matias.
Outro português, Artur Jorge, se somou em abril de 2024 à lista de técnicos de Textor e o Botafogo teve uma temporada histórica: campeão brasileiro e da Libertadores.
Oito meses depois, no entanto, Jorge pediu demissão. Após 275 dias no cargo e 55 jogos como técnico alvinegro, ele chamou a atenção do Catar e foi contratado pelo Al-Rayyan.
A fila andou com o brasileiro Carlos Leiria assumindo a equipe em janeiro, depois de sua passagem pelo sub-20 do Botafogo. Mas seu ciclo no time profissional durou apenas 43 dias e dez jogos.
Caçapa retornou como interino até a chegada do português Renato Paiva, em fevereiro.
Com ele, o Glorioso recuperou o rumo e conseguiu uma grande vitória na Copa do Mundo de Clubes sobre o campeão europeu, o Paris Saint-Germain, na fase de grupos. Depois do jogo, quando Paiva concedia entrevista, Textor deu um beijo no treinador diante das câmeras.
Mas a paixão acabou pouco mais de uma semana depois, com a eliminação nas oitavas de final diante do Palmeiras.
Segundo a imprensa, o americano ficou insatisfeito com o estilo conservador de Paiva e o português foi demitido depois de 121 dias e 23 jogos à frente do Botafogo.
Agora, Davide Ancelotti é a aposta do empresário americano.
Ao anunciar a contratação de Davide, o Botafogo destacou sua “experiência direta na elite do futebol europeu” como auxiliar de Carlo Ancelotti e o definiu como um “treinador jovem, preparado e com forte ambição de construir seu próprio legado”.
