New York Yankees left-handed pitcher Ryan Yarbrough has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a right oblique strain.
Righty Allan Winans will start Monday’s game in Yarbrough’s place against the Reds in Cincinnati, manager Aaron Boone confirmed Sunday.
Boone said there wasn’t a timetable for Yarbrough’s return, though he did say the strain was considered “low grade” and that he could begin throwing again once he’s symptom-free.

“Hopefully not something that keeps him down from throwing for too long,” Boone said.
Yarbrough, 33, is 3-1 with a 3.90 ERA in eight starts and eight relief appearances this season. The Yankees backdated his injury list placement to June 20.
Winans, 29, is 7-0 with a 0.90 ERA in 11 games (nine starts) at Triple A.
Boone said Winans has been “tremendous” at Triple-A, where he’s struck out a career-best 10.6 batters per nine innings while limiting walks (2.3 BB/9) and home runs (0.2 HR/9). Righties have just a .478 OPS against Winans.
“To be this deep in the season as a starting pitcher and have a sub-1.00 ERA, it’s been really, really excellent,” Boone said. “Hopefully he brings some of that up here with us (Monday).”
The Yankees also recalled lefty Jayvien Sandridge from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Yarbrough had been dealing with the injury since his second-to-last start versus the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on June 13, Boone said.
He made his next start, giving up two runs over 5 1/3 innings against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium. But Yarborugh was unable to complete a bullpen session Saturday, Boone said.
Marcus Stroman could also be an option with Yarbrough sidelined. The veteran, who has been recovering from left knee inflammation, is slated to make his third rehab start Tuesday and work his way up to approximately 70 pitches. Boone said that Stroman “will be in the mix” after that.
Stroman gave up 12 earned runs in 9 1/3 innings (11.57 ERA) over three starts before going on the injured list. He walked as many batters (seven) as he struck out.
