Arch Manning has kept a low profile since committing to the Texas Longhorns in 2022, serving as a backup to Quinn Ewers for two seasons. With Ewers off to the NFL, Manning is set to take over the reins of the Texas offense just as the Longhorns begin their SEC journey. And with that, the anticipation around his debut is growing louder by the day.
College football analyst Paul Finebaum, speaking on ESPN’s First Take, made a bold declaration: Arch Manning’s appearance at SEC Media Days in Atlanta will be the marquee event of the week-even as the city hosts MLB’s Home Run Derby and the All-Star Game.
“And think about this for a second. You just mentioned SEC Media Days in Atlanta, also in Atlanta. Also in Atlanta next week is the Home Run Derby and the All-Star Game,” Finebaum said.
“But Tuesday afternoon, the biggest event in town is gonna be Arch Mania showing up at Media Days for the first time. Very few people have had a chance to talk to Arch Manning, other than isolated interviews, and he’s going to be one of the biggest attractions we have ever seen.”
SEC Media Days sets the stage for Arch Manning’s long-awaited introduction
Despite being arguably the most hyped recruit in recent memory, Manning has rarely spoken publicly. That changes on Tuesday when he makes his media debut. And Finebaum believes the moment will surpass even the attention lavished on former college stars Johnny Manziel and Tim Tebow during their heyday.
“Yes, there has been Johnny Manziel mania about 10 or 12 years ago, and there have been other great stars, including when [Tim] Tebow was asked all kinds of weird questions during his first appearance,” Finebaum continued. “But I think Arch might top all that. Because that’s all college football fans have been talking about, really for years, as he sat behind Quinn Ewers, for what reason I’ll never know.”
Arch’s quiet buildup has only added fuel to the fire. With his famous last name and the promise of elite quarterback play, fans and analysts have been waiting impatiently for his time to shine. That moment is almost here, and the hype is reaching historic levels.
“But he gets his chance finally, and it’s not only on the stage in Atlanta, but it comes at the end of August at Ohio State. Rarely have we seen an opener like this in college football,” Finebaum said.
