Jerry Jones believes the Dallas Cowboys‘ Trevon Diggs is making good progress in his injury rehabilitation, as fans wonder if the All-Pro cornerback could return to the AT&T Stadium in the 2025/26 NFL season.
Diggs had to bow out of the 2024 campaign after just 11 games following knee cartilage issues, a disappointing setback after the 26-year-old suffered a torn ACL in 2023 in training between Week 2 and 3.
Now into physiotherapy and rehabilitation in a bid to be fit for the upcoming season in the NFC East following surgery, the Cowboys’ owner gives a key update to the two-time Pro Bowler and also reveals the team knows exactly when he’ll be back.
“We have a good idea,” Jones said. “He’s working hard. That’s very important because if he will be very good and diligent in his rehab process then he’ll get back quicker.
“And when he does get back, he’ll be sounder. If he has not worked as hard, he is more subject to injury. He’s learned that one time.
“I have a lot of hope that his actual rehab and experience from the time before is really helping him out. I think it is.”
The joke comment included a small joke at the expense of Diggs, who went to rehabilitation after his 2023 injury too – something that apparently left the Dallas front office discontent.
Now it seems both the player and the franchise are aware that taking things slower is the best way to bring the ex-Alabama Crimson Tide star into NFL contention once again as they bid to displace the Philadelphia Eagles as the kings of the sport.
When could Diggs return from injury?
Jones is keeping any timeline of Diggs‘ return close to his chest, perhaps a bid for the Cowboys to catch their rivals off by adding another star name to their active roster to partner up with Micah Parsons, Ceedee Lamb and Dak Prescott.
But their recruitment actions could hint that he isn’t due back for the start of the opener, or it’s at least touch-and-go. The Cowboys picked up Shavon Revel Jr. in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft to fill the cornerback role next to DaRon Bland.
Revel Jr. played college football for the Louisburg Hurricanes and East Carolina Pirates and became the 76th pick in the Draft. Standing at 6ft1in and weighing 194lbs, he has a 32.5 arm length.
He also had to fight back from an ACL injury in 2024 too, which could even hit at desperation on the part of the Dallas executives if they received bad news about Diggs’ availability.
Diggs‘ status for the start of the 2025/26 NFL season is currently uncertain, meaning it’s possible he won’t appear in Week 1 in September’s opening game as they bid to recover from third in the NFC East last time out.
