Am Wochenende hat Nottingham in der Premier League 2:2 gegen Absteiger Leicester gespielt und damit wichtige Zähler im Kampf um die Königsklasse liegen gelassen. Danach stürmte Klub-Eigentümer Evangelos Marinakis (57) auf den Rasen und schnauzte Trainer Nuno Espirito Santo (51) wutentbrannt an.
Jetzt hat sich der Grieche zu der Skandal-Aktion geäußert – und seine Taten verteidigt.

Hintergrund: Awoniyi war beim Torschuss-Versuch unglücklich gegen den Pfosten geprallt und hatte sich dabei verletzt. Die medizinische Abteilung untersuchte den Stürmer und gab zunächst grünes Licht, änderte ihre Einschätzung aber kurz darauf. In der Zwischenzeit hatte Santo allerdings seinen letzten Wechsel verbraucht.

Das sorgte dafür, dass Marinakis völlig aufgelöst auf den Rasen stampfte. Santo versuchte noch, ihm dabei die Hand zu geben, doch darauf hatte der Grieche gar keine Lust. Er schimpfe weiter energisch auf den Trainer ein. Nach mehreren Sekunden verließ er voller Wut wieder den Rasen.
Nach der Skandal-Aktion verteidigte Santo seinen Boss und schob den Ausrutscher auf die Emotionen: „Es ist dem Besitzer und seiner Leidenschaft zu verdanken, dass wir als Klub wachsen. Er treibt uns an. Er will, dass wir besser werden. Es ist seine Leidenschaft und sein Wunsch, ein großer Klub zu sein.“ Und: „Als Verein haben wir der Familie Marinakis eine Menge zu verdanken.“
Nach dem 2:2 rutscht Nottingham auf den siebten Platz ab, ein Punkt hinter Aston Villa und Chelsea. In dieser Saison reicht Rang 5 in der Premier League für die Champions League.
