Odegaard winner sees Arsenal edge past Southampton
Martin Odegaard hit a late winner as Arsenal ended their season with a 2-1 win at bottom club Southampton, who finished the season with just 12 points.Mikel Arteta's Gunners only needed a point to mathematically secure second place in the Premier League and took all three at the end, in the process setting a new record for most consecutive final-day matches won. The visitors were frustrated for most of their final league game, and their last before the transfer window. Mikel Merino struck the bar, while Gabriel Martinelli saw a one-on-one saved by former Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.Instead, their opener came from an unlikely source in Kieran Tierney. Playing his last game before rejoining Celtic on a free transfer, the defender finished at the near post from Ben White's cross and celebrated wildly. But Arsenal were pegged back after the break. […]

Southampton 1 Arsenal 2 – Tierney signs off in style but more set piece struggles
Arsenal were indebted to Martin Odegaard’s superb late strike as they finished the season with a 2-1 win over bottom side Southampton. Cult hero Kieran Tierney opened the scoring just before half-time on his final appearance for the club, sweeping home Ben White’s low cross beyond former team-mate Aaron Ramsdale.AdvertisementIn front of new manager Will Still, Southampton equalised through Ross Stewart just before the hour mark. After substitute Bukayo Saka had a goal chalked off for offside, fellow replacement Odegaard struck in the 89th minute with a crisp shot from outside the box. They finish the 2024-25 season ten points behind champions Liverpool.Due to his touchline ban, Arteta sat next to co-chair Josh Kroenke in the directors’ box. With second place certain, there was room for nostalgia in his team selection. Ahead of his return to Celtic this summer, Tierney […]
