V deštivé sobotní kvalifikaci si na německé dráze nedaleko hranic s Českem vyjel čtrnáctou příčku, ze které se po startu dostal o dvě pozice vpřed. Postupně ale začal klesat pořadím a pendloval kolem poslední bodované patnácté pozice.
Směrem kupředu mu ale pomohly dva karamboly jezdců před nimi. Nejprve se srazil David Alonso s Diogem Moreirou a čtyři kola před koncem Albert Arenas s Marcosem Ramírezem. Právě po jejich srážce byl závod předčasně ukončen. Salač tak dojel posedmé z dosavadních jedenácti závodů v první desítce.
Na Sachsenringu vyhrál Turek Deniz Öncü, jenž se nedlouho po startu ze šesté pozice dostal do čela a skoro celou dobu mu dýchal na záda Belgičan Barry Baltus.
Třetí finišoval Salačův stájový kolega ze stáje Elf Marc VDS Jake Dixon. Čtvrtý skončil lídr průběžné klasifikace Manuel González.
