Just over two months ago, the Kansas City Chiefs were crushed 40-22 by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX and failed to secure a third consecutive Vince Lombardi Trophy for the franchise led by Patrick Mahomes.
In that game, Patrick Mahomes was sacked six times by the Eagles’ defense. He was also intercepted twice and never managed to get into rhythm.

There’s no doubt that Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is a fierce competitor, and he’ll do whatever it takes to continue dominating the AFC and seek revenge against the Eagles in the Super Bowl. Interestingly, both the Chiefs and Eagles are favorites in their respective conferences to return to the NFL’s biggest stage.
“You have that bad taste in your mouth from the last time you stepped on the football field, and you have to hear about it all offseason,” Mahomes told reporters on Wednesday. “It gives you the push that you want to go out there and be better and show what we’re really about.”
Mahomes also emphasized that they need to improve and, most importantly, return to being explosive. In 2024, the quarterback threw for just 3,928 yards – the lowest total of his career since becoming the starter in 2018.
“There were opportunities in games for deep shots that I either didn’t take or we just barely missed,” Mahomes explained. “If we can get back to hitting those throws – we talked about it all last season – it opens up the rest of the offense. That helps the run game. That helps the medium pass game, everything.”
Promise of explosiveness in 2025
Looking ahead to next season, Mahomes will have key receivers like Marquise Brown, who signed a one-year extension in March. Rashee Rice is also gradually recovering, and along with Xavier Worthy, the Chiefs are shaping up to have an explosive offense in 2025. However, it’s still possible they’ll target another wide receiver in the upcoming NFL Draft.

As the NCAA makes changes to its transfer portal calendar, it’s also making tweaks to the timeframe players have to transfer after a coaching change.The NCAA announced Tuesday that it was set to shorten the transfer window after coaching changes from 30 to 15 days and also alter when that window takes place.
