In the cover of a chilly early morning, Alijah Arenas, the dazzling 18-year-old basketball star and son of iconic former NBA player Gilbert Arenas, narrowly escaped tragedy in a catastrophic car accident in the heart of Winnetka, Los Angeles.

The critically injured USC recruit was rushed to the hospital, plunging the community into a whirlwind of grief and shock upon hearing that his life hung in the balance following the brutal single-vehicle collision.
On a two-lane residential street with a speed limit of 40 mph, Alijah lost control of his father’s Cybertruck, apparently at a high rate of speed. Chaos ensued as he struck a fire hydrant, which exploded in a geyser, and then slammed into a century-old oak tree.
The force of the impact caused the vehicle to burst into flames, lighting up the night sky. Shocked neighbors watched the disaster unfold: water, fire, and Alijah, probably regretting not taking the bus.
Despite the circumstances, residents quickly rushed to the scene and pulled Alijah from the burning vehicle, likely saving his life. He was rushed to the hospital with smoke inhalation and injuries, and ended up in a coma.
The situation was quite critical and the family was expecting more bad news, but a miraculous turn of events has changed the mood.
Alijah has come out of his coma
A relative of Arenas contacted ESPN with the news we have all been waiting for.
“In a remarkable and hopeful development, Alijah Arenas has come out of his coma and has shown significant signs of progress over the past 24 hours. However, he remains intubated,” the statement said.
The report notes that the Tronjas player opened his eyes and, while unable to speak, wrote on a piece of paper: “Did someone get hurt?” It was a moment that left his family in tears and showed his enormous heart in the face of a difficult situation. It is undoubtedly something they will remember for the rest of their lives.
Eternal gratitude to the hero who saved Alijah’s life
The Arenas family is grateful to the brave stranger who pulled Alijah out of the smoke and window blasts. His quick thinking and the extraordinary work of the medical team saved Alijah’s life. The family continues to pray for more good news after two days of nightmare.
