Lucas Bergvall has signed a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur until 2031.
Bergvall rejected an offer from Barcelona to join Spurs from Swedish side Djurgarden in February 2024 for £8.5million on a five-year contract but he did not officially move until July.
His renewal extends his contract at the north London club by a further two years.

The teenager’s encouraging performances in pre-season filled the club with optimism he could feature regularly under first-team head coach Ange Postecoglou.
After initially receiving game time in the Europa League and domestic cup competitions, the Sweden international has started 11 times in the Premier League and made 27 appearances in total.
In recent months, the 19-year-old has broken into Postecoglou’s starting XI ahead of more experienced alternatives including Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr, with the new deal reflective of how much he has surpassed expectations this season.

Bergvall a generational talent
Bergvall’s development has been a rare positive for Spurs in what has been a difficult season. He showed flashes of his quality in the first half of the campaign but looked raw and out of his depth at times, including in a 3-2 defeat to Galatasaray in Turkey.
Since then, Bergvall has knuckled down, beefed up his physqiue and adapted to the demands of playing at this level. It is easy to forget that he was still playing in the Swedish second division three years ago. He was always going to needed time to adjust to a new country and a new team but nobody expected him to become such a crucial player for Spurs so quickly.
Bergvall’s breakout moment came in January in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool when he scored a late winner. Bergvall has continued to grow and is now part of Postecoglou’s strongest midfield along with Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski or James Maddison. It is a sign of how much progress Bergvall has made that he started both legs of their crucial Europa League quarter-final against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Bergvall is supremely talented and only turned 19 in February. Spurs will be delighted that they have secured his services for the long-term. He is a generational talent they should be looking to build their team around for the next decade.
