Denn eine Niederlage, wie vor einer Woche in Würzburg, können sich die Berliner zwei Tage vor Ende der Hauptrunde nicht mehr leisten. Bei den Unterfranken traf Alba nur knapp 55 Prozent seiner Freiwürfe, also schlechter als Thomas Dreier trifft. „Freiwürfe sind extrem mental. Und natürlich ist es schwer, Spiele zu gewinnen, wenn man 12 Freiwürfe nicht trifft“, so Thomas über die Pleite in Würzburg.

Der Amerikaner, der insgesamt 139 Spiele in der NBA für Toronto, Utah und Chicago absolvierte, hat schon früh Gefallen an den Distanzwürfen gefunden. „Ich war mein ganzes Leben ein guter Schütze, bereits in der Highschool“, erzählt Thomas, der auch sehr gut Golf spielt (Handicap 8). „Im College habe ich mein Handwerk perfektioniert.“
