Geht den Veolia Towers im Kampf um die Play-In-Plätze der Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga auf den letzten Metern die Puste aus?

Ohne ihren Trainer Benka Barloschky (37) kassierten die Hamburger ausgerechnet gegen die schwächelnden Bamberg Baskets nach sieben Siegen die erste Heimniederlage des Jahres 2025 – 93:114 (49:59). In einem wilden Offensiv-Spektakel bekamen die Türme so viele Punkte wie noch nie in dieser Saison in den Korb.

[–>Zum ersten Mal in seiner Amtszeit fehlte Barloschky bei einem Spiel. Bei der Vormittagseinheit war er noch dabei. Doch dann eilte er mit seiner hochschwangeren Frau Marie zur Geburt ins Krankenhaus. Das Paar hat schon die Kinder Bruno (6) und Lola (3). Für Barloschky übernahm sein Assistent Stanley Witt (29) das Kommando.

„Ich war vorher auf jeden Fall aufgeregt“, sagte der gebürtige Hagener. „Ich habe versucht, dass mit meinem Staff so cool wie möglich zu lösen. Ich wusste seit heute morgen, dass es sich anbahnt. Ich glaube, dass jeder von den Jungs mir vertraut, dass jeder von denen mir zuhört.“

Für den neunmaligen Meister Bamberg geht es nach einer Saison zum Vergessen nur noch darum, die Fans in „Freak City“ nicht vollends gegen sich aufzubringen. Und tatsächlich war das Team von Trainer Anton Gavel (40) nach der peinlichen Pleite gegen Absteiger Göttingen (92:101) sichtbar auf Wiedergutmachung bedacht.

Die Gäste führten schnell mit 12:3. Witt griff zum ersten Mal ein und nahm eine Auszeit. „Wir müssen grundsätzlich Tempo aufnehmen“, mahnte er seine Mannschaft. Und die hörte auf ihn. Die Türme warfen sich warm und glichen mit einem 9:0-Lauf aus. Doch die Freude bei den 3400 Fans im zum zehnten Mal in Folge ausverkauften Inselpark währte nur kurz. Denn bis zur Halbzeit bekamen die Towers die Bamberger Offensive überhaupt nicht in den Griff.

Das änderte sich auch nach der Halbzeit nicht. Bamberg startete mit einem 8:3-Lauf ins dritte Viertel, führte mit 68:52 (23.). Auszeit! Witt wurde laut: „Wir müssen verdammt noch mal Stopps produzieren.“ Der kurzzeitige Weckruf. Und der Start für die Aufholjagd. Angetrieben von Johnathan Stove (29), der mit 23 Punkten eine Saisonbestleistung auflegte, kämpften sich die Türme noch mal auf 73:78 ran (28.). Doch der Run hatte zu viel Kraft gekostet …

Stove angefressen: „114 Punkte gegen uns sind einfach schlecht. Wir müssen wieder das defensive Team werden, das wir waren. Wir müssen mental da sein und Stolz daraus ziehen. Das darf nicht mehr passieren. Aber dafür müssen wir hart arbeiten.“

Die Bamberger verteidigten ihre Führung. Überragend: Center Filip Stanic (27), der unter den Körben dominierte und mit 20 Punkten und 12 Rebounds ein Double-Double schaffte. Selbst als Stanic früh im vierten Viertel sein viertes Foul kassierte und erstmal auf die Bank ging, kippte die Partie nicht mehr. Auch weil Top-Scorer Ronaldo Segu (25) mit 23 Punkten nur knapp an seiner Bestleistung (26) vorbeischrammte.

Die Towers verteidigten dagegen ohne Biss. Und sind drauf und dran, sich um den Lohn ihrer Arbeit zu bringen. Witt: „Man muss kein Zauberer sein um zusehen, dass wir nicht gut genug verteidigt haben. Wir haben sie ins Spiel kommen lassen dann sind sie offensiv einfach so unglaublich gut, dass wir sie nicht mehr eingefangen haben. Grundsätzlich würde ich sagen, dass wir noch immer auf Kurs sind. Das gehört beim Basketball dazu.“

Doch dann kam er zum Wichtigsten: „Ich bin einfach froh, dass Benka eine gesunde Tochter hat und es der Frau gut geht.“

Die Bamberger haben Samstag im Heimspiel gegen die MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg (18.30 Uhr, Dyn) jetzt sogar noch mal Grund zum Feiern. Klub-Urgestein Karsten Tadda (36) wird dann in seiner letzten Saison in der ewigen Bestenliste mit dem 638. Einsatz mit BBL-Legende Alex King (40) gleichziehen.
