Jetzt sind wir alle Handball!
Bitter, im Fußball steigen die Halbfinals in Champions League und Europa League ohne deutsche Beteiligung. Wenigstens im Handball läuft der Ball anders, die deutschen Teams aus der Daikin Handball-Bundesliga glänzen im internationalen Geschäft.
Es rollt wie geschmiert. Gleich fünf Teams aus der HBL haben es in die beiden Final4-Turniere geschafft. Spielen am Ende der Saison um den Titel in der Champions League und um die Trophäe im Europapokal (European League).
Die Reaktion ist kaum zu fassen: Handball-Star kriegt Ball voll ins Gesicht
Im europäischen Handball dominieren die Deutschen! Die Füchse Berlin und der SC Magdeburg stehen im Final4 der Champions League, der THW Kiel, die MT Melsungen und die SG Flensburg-Handewitt sind im Final4 der European League.
Handball-Supermacht Deutschland! Doch warum ist das so?
Die Daikin Handball-Bundesliga (HBL) ist die stärkste Liga der Welt – und die ausgeglichenste. Berlin-Boss Bob Hanning (57): „Es ist ein großer Vorteil, in jedem Spiel maximal gefordert zu sein. Das fördert die Physis und die mentale Stärke.“
Hanning weiter: „Wir gewinnen zwar in Kiel, lassen aber einen Punkt in Erlangen (aktuell 16.; d. Red.) Wenn man nur einen Millimeter nachgibt, bist du in der Liga verloren.“ Und sein Sportvorstand Stefan Kretzschmar (52) ergänzt: „Der Competition-Gedanke ist nirgends größer als in der Bundesliga. Du gehst das ganze Jahr durchs Stahlbad und bist dann auch international gestärkt für die Crunchtime.“
Andere Halbfinalisten wie der FC Barcelona werden dagegen national kaum gefordert. Der FC Barcelona verlor im April 2025 gegen Granollers (30:31) erstmals seit der Saison 2017/2018 ein Spiel in der spanischen Liga (2021/2022 wurde ein Spiel am grünen Tisch verloren), hat aber elf Punkte Vorsprung auf den Zweiten. In der HBL trennt Tabellenführer Berlin nur ein Punkt vom Vierten Magdeburg.

HBL-Boss Frank Bohmann (60) freut die aktuelle deutsche Dominanz indes: „Wir sind total stolz auf alle fünf Klubs. Wahrscheinlich wäre auch Gummersbach im Halbfinale, wenn der VfL nicht gegen einen deutschen Klub (Melsungen) hätte antreten müssen.“

„In der European League weit über 75 Prozent“, sagt Hanning und fügt augenzwinkernd hinzu: „Da ich ja neulich gesagt habe, dass ich glaube, dass wir die Champions League gewinnen, ist es nahezu sicher.“
