Arch Manning‘s Texas Longhorns were in the news today, but for something rather unusual and even a little embarrassing.
Nick Brooks, a freshman offensive lineman for the Texas Longhorns, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol on Sunday, April 27, 2025, in Austin, Texas.

According to the latest reports on the arrest, the Texas freshman was on his way to an adult establishment when he was stopped by Austin police after admitting to ingesting substances such as marijuana in a vape and a cannabis cigarette, which led to his arrest for driving under the influence.
And that’s not all, because when he was stopped by an officer who noticed clear signs of marijuana intoxication, such as watery and red eyes, according to court documents and the Travis County Sheriff’s report revealed by OutKick.
In one report, authorities noted that Brooks was shaking uncontrollably.
In his defense, Brooks said something inappropriate that upset the Texas Longhorns
It’s an open secret. Underage college athletes sneaking out to bars near campus is a tradition as old as it is risky. But for the Texas Longhorns, the night turned into a nightmare. Nervous and under pressure, Brooks tried to explain what happened, and every word he said fueled the storm that now threatens to engulf the team.
“Brooks stated that he would later take prospects to the Bare Cabaret strip club,” a judge said.
Nick Brooks, a football lineman, was arrested April 27 in Travis County and released on personal recognizance.
As a highly publicized issue, it has clearly reached the upper echelons of Texas, who are closely monitoring everything surrounding this matter.
“We are aware of the situation with Nick Brooks, we have spoken with him and are gathering information. We will continue to monitor the legal process and address this situation within the team at the appropriate time,” said Steve Sarkisian, the team’s head coach.
What a life lesson for Nick. Let’s hope it doesn’t cost him too much more, but his reputation has been damaged and he’ll have to prove himself on the field to overcome this stain.
