After a nerve-wracking offseason full of uncertainty and doubt for Pete Alonso, the New York Mets first baseman was named the National League Player of the Month for April, the first full month of the current MLB season.
All of Queens’ fans celebrated each of the interventions of the Mets’ star, but none more so than his greatest fan, Haley Alonso, the wife of the Polar Bear.

This season, Alonso has an impressive batting average of .345, with eight home runs, 30 RBIs and 23 runs scored, and a very high OPS of 1.137.
After Alonso was named Player of the Month, Haley posted on her Instagram account a few words that say everything that phrase means.
“National League Player of the Month @polarpete20”, followed by a fire emoji, and it’s a phrase that comes from someone who knows what has happened in the player’s life in recent weeks, the long preseason, the early mornings, the doubts, that message says it all.
And the fans noticed it immediately, it was a post accompanied by a loving gesture, which reminded everyone that even star athletes need their space, and Alonso has his own.
Behind the image of the striker is a couple based on support, humour and shared determination. Haley’s tribute was not ostentatious, it was fierce, and it shows that she has someone on her side who will not stop, and who with five words is able to say everything.
Mendoza impressed with Alonso’s level
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza has been deeply impressed with Alonso’s hitting technique this season.
While Alonso has always demonstrated his power at the plate, it is patience that has really caught Mendoza’s interest. After Alonso’s role in the Mets’ 9-3 victory over the Cardinals, Mendoza was quick to praise the improvements he has observed in Alonso’s performance in 2025.
“His ability to control the strike zone is probably the best I’ve seen in the last year and at the start of this year,” Mendoza said. “We know he has power and he’s a good hitter. But he gets into trouble when he starts chasing. I feel like now he’s taking his walks and getting pitches to hit, and he’s not missing them.”
