Manchester United must ensure ordinary fans are not priced out of a new Old Trafford
The Stretford End has been one of the best things about Old Trafford this season.Fans have come together, organised by The Red Army (TRA), and made hundreds of original flags which they fly before games. The atmosphere in Old Trafford’s traditional vocal heartland is impressive, too.It costs an adult season ticket holder £32 per game to sit on the lower part of the Stretford End. It’s good value. In comparison, away fans pay £27.50 to watch a game at fourth tier Cheltenham Town. It’s even cheaper at Old Trafford for younger fans, as it should be.AdvertisementWhen I used to stand on the Stretford End terrace, it was full of youngsters. It was accessible and affordable on a paper-round wage, and the buzz was palpable. We brought the noise that made it special. And then it all changed and United got it […]

Overreactions from Giants win over Eagles: Blame Howie Roseman for disaster? Jaxson Dart saved Brian Daboll?
The NFL is a funny league, especially when the unpredictable happens. There's a reason why we all tune in every single week, not knowing what's going to happen despite the oddsmakers telling you what to expect. The New York Giants had no chance to beat the Philadelphia Eagles, right? Not only did New York beat Philadelphia, the Giants stomped the Eagles. The Giants were the more physical team for all four quarters in a 34-17 victory, destroying the defending Super Bowl champions. The Eagles are far from that right now, as they have lost two games in five days after a 4-0 start. The Giants just lost to the New Orleans Saints five days ago, sandwiched in between knocking off the Los Angeles Chargers and Eagles at home over this 11-day stretch. New York is clearly a different team with Jaxson Dart […]

NFL Week 6 schedule rankings: Top 5 Sunday games most likely to come down to the final drive
The NFL has gone 5-for-5 on its Sundays so far. How you feel about the opening weeks will be colored by your allegiances, but if we all zoom out, we’re looking at a suspenseful and entertaining season. Last Sunday was a bit tapered compared to Week 3’s high-water mark — the blocked kick revolution — but it still brought the loopiness. There were six one-score finishes, headlined by the Denver Broncos’ “wait … what?” comeback and the Arizona Cardinals’ “no … nooooooo!” collapse.AdvertisementTo suit the tension and manifest more must-see TV, we’re ranking this Sunday’s games by their potential for walk-off heroics. Fandom is more fun when we appreciate each “quad box” watch as its own event. Let us know what we missed in the comments below.Week 6 Sunday viewing guideWatching in person? Get tickets on StubHub. Cowboys’ under-the-radar weapon: OC Klayton Adams and his improved run game
Whether it’s on the field or off of it, almost nothing connected to the Dallas Cowboys flies under the radar. But there is a candidate this season in the coaching offices.Coming off another strong offensive performance, it’s fair to say the Cowboys have gone from having one of the NFL’s worst rushing offenses last season to one of the best this year. And much of that credit should go to offensive coordinator Klayton Adams.AdvertisementThe first-year OC doesn’t call the plays. That’s up to head coach Brian Schottenheimer. But Adams handles a significant part of the run game. Through five games, that group is averaging 34 more rushing yards per game. The Cowboys have already scored seven rushing touchdowns, which is one more than they had in 17 games last season. And they have had runs of 66, 49 and 30 […]

Are the Mets too data-driven? Who will play in winter leagues?: Mailbag part 2
Every time we open the floor to reader questions, we hem and haw about whether it should become a one-part or two-part mailbag. And while you think it might be a complicated decision based on question overlap and quality, what it really comes down to is: Are the Mets playing meaningful baseball games?AdvertisementLo and behold, here’s our first two-part mailbag since March. For what it’s worth, the questions totally merited it.Questions have been lightly edited for clarity.(President of baseball operations) David Stearns said in his news conference that the Mets need to improve their field defense. Do you have any thoughts on how they could or should do that? — MackTim: By getting younger and more athletic. That’s hard to do in free agency, of course, when most players are older (and consequently less athletic). So it will likely take […]
