Aaron Rodgers, the four-time NFL MVP quarterback, has once again captured the internet’s attention, this time with a mysterious wedding ring spotted at the 2025 Kentucky Derby. On May 6, Sports Rush‘s analyst Mike Florio suggested Rodgers might be pulling a move straight out of a classic sitcom.

Yes, a sitcom, specifically emulating Seinfeld‘s George Costanza by wearing the ring as a social experiment. The speculation has added another layer of intrigue to Rodgers’ already enigmatic offseason.

Rodgers, who attended the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, was photographed on the red carpet with a ring on his left hand’s ring finger, traditionally where wedding bands are worn. The sighting immediately fueled rumors of a secret marriage or engagement, especially since Rodgers has been linked to various romantic partners in the past, including a rumored split from Shailene Woodley in 2022.

Pat McAfee, on his show, playfully speculated, “Maybe somebody got engaged to him and said, ‘Aaron, will you take this ring and be with me forever?’ and Aaron said, ‘Yes, I will.‘”

Rodgers’ ring sparks experiment rumors

Florio, however, offered a different take, drawing a parallel to Seinfeld‘s George Costanza, who famously wore a wedding ring to seem more attractive while single. Is it possible Aaron Rodgers is wearing a wedding ring as a sociological experiment, like Costanza once did?” Florio pondered.

He elaborated, suggesting Rodgers’ true motive might be to stir media buzz: “It’d be: ‘Can I get the media to talk about it, so I can go on The Pat McAfee Show and complain about the fact that we’re talking about his wedding ring?‘” The theory aligns with Rodgers’ history of keeping fans and media guessing, from his cryptic retirement hints to trade rumors linking him to the Steelers.

The ring was spotted during Rodgers’ appearance at the Barnstable Brown Derby Eve Gala in Louisville, a high-profile event attended by celebrities. Social media erupted, with fans posting on X: “Aaron Rodgers with a wedding ring at the Derby? What’s he up to now?” Rodgers, known for his playful off-field antics-like his 2022 Instagram post hinting at a breakup-has yet to confirm or deny the rumors, leaving the speculation to swirl as he still has to decide if he will play in 2025.
